How to install adj spring perches?
 

I want to install adjustable spring perches on my FC. I have Tokico Illuminas on all four corners. The lower spring perches are welded in place. How do you install adjustable spring perches?

I'm concerned about how to cut the welds for the original perches, how to fasten the new ones in place, etc.

I've never owned or installed adjustable perches so I'm in the dark here.

Also, I'm looking at going way up in spring rate from my current Eibach Pro Kit springs. Springs appear to be generally available in 2.5 and 2.25 inch inner diameter. What inner spring diameter do I need to fit around the Illuminas?

If they're not adjustable already, I don't you're going to be able to make them adjustable. You're going to have to buy new shocks that are adjustable.

Are you saying that there is no way to mount adjustable spring perches onto a strut body?

My interest was drawn by the zillions of aftermarket "coil over" kits that do not include shocks or struts. They only have the springs, adjustable lower perches, and a fixed top spring seat. I see them advertized a lot for Hondas and Mitsubishi's. They appear to be designed to slide over the strut/shock body and to be affixed at some point lower than the original perch.

I think I've also seen adjustable perches for sale from racing outfitters like Jegs, Truechoice, Pegasus, etc.

Struts might present some additional challenges, and I know that different shocks require slightly different steps to do the install.

If I understand your procedure correctly, you did not achieve much drop, did you? If your adjustable perch can only go to the bottom of the new sleeve, and if that sleeve rests on the same welded band that the original perch rested on, then you would not have accomplished any drop. Or, did I miss something?

I had figured on a procedure much like what you did. But, I also contemplated completely removing the original welded ring/stop, and then lowering it and re-welding it in place so the sleeve and adjustable perch could go lower than the original.

Do you have any idea about whether it is ok to weld to a Tokico Illumina housing?
