How do you install extended studs on FD?
 

Hello,

How do you replace the wheel studs on an FD?
How do you get the old ones out, then new ones in?
Can this be done without removing the hub? Is it difficult to remove the hubs?
Can this be done at the track?

I just replaced mine. Go buy a few nuts the same thread pitch as the studs. Spin them on till they are flush with the stud tip. Then grab a big hammer and start whacking it. They will pop loose. The new studs only need to be put in place and use another nut. Grab a deep impact socket and use an impact to tighten the nut against the hub. This will pull the new studs into there seated position. The longer studs I installed were only 1/2" longer than factory so I was able to install them without removing the hub. Any longer and the hub will need to be removed.

Where did you get studs that are only a 1/2" longer? Do you happen to have the model/part number?

Nevermind...found some ARP 1007708 ~$14 per 5.

You just bang out the rears with a hammer too?

For future readers: The rear studs on an FD can't be removed without pulling the hub and damaging the wheel bearing (part of the race comes off with the hub). There just isnt enough room to wiggle the stud off without removing the wheel hub. This is a cheap and quick job on any other car but not on an FD.

For those who don't have the parts for this job, you can get them from my website www.j-auto.net. I carry ARP studs and quality Japanese made wheel bearings for FDs.

I wasn't aware about the back studs as I only needed to replace my fronts.

How about cutting or drilling a 1" hole somewhere on the heat deflector plate to rotate the studs over, and bang out one at a time through the hole.

I'll try that this weekend.
