How da heck do you bend a rim? What should I do?
Dammit...
Just got back from Les Schwab...and yepz...my right rear rim is bent. Not as in..bent the lip..but as in the center portion of the rim is bent slightly outta wack. Ican understand the lip..but come one..the center is like bent inwards... My rear feels alright..but I can definetly tell there's some instability at 80-90mph. FUGG. How in hell do you bend a rim like that? A pothole? A curb? I haven't hit anything since I've owned the car, and I've been really careful with it. Man.this is gonna cost an arm and a leg...what should I do? Replace that one rim, or get a whole new set? I want new rims, anyways...but damn....I'm about to leave. My household goods are being shipped out on Monday (so I can't ship the old rims), and my car is getting shipped out on the 15th of May. Grrr.... |
Stock rims aren't expensive. Check the for sale section. I don't think people are only selling one rim though. People usually sell a set of 4 or 2.
Or get some nice 17 x 10's! :D |
They're not? I thought the stockers were like hella expensive?
The thing is..I don't have time to get them shipped to me.....should I just buy a whole new set? |
Usually you can find singles for $150 or sets for $400-450.
Big pot holes will do it.. I've done one of those and a curb. $300 later... Shoulda bought a whole damn set and saved me some money. |
I bought 2 wheels with bald tires for $250 shipped. I'm pretty sure you can find 2 for the same price or maybe cheaper.
Check ebay too. Maybe you should get a set of 4. Save 2 to put slicks on for the track. |

Baltimore has those metal plates on the road that blow tires and bend rims... its not expensive to get a new rim. Jt sells all 4 in best condition possible for like 550 dollars.

Ah....I guess that's where I was getting that from.
I looked in the F/S section and found a set that might work. Only problem is getting them shipped here in time, if the buyer is still selling them. How long can I run on this bent rim? Is that pretty bad for the bearings? By the way..who's JT? I'm under extreme time constraint's here... |
Wheels America will fix it for a $165.00 flat rate. For an extra $50.00 they'll do a one day turn around and overnight the wheel back to you. It would definitely be cheaper to find a used one to buy, but if you're really stuck for time you might want to try them.

Try any of the Mazda junk yards and I'm sure you can just get one. And they will ship:

hmm anyone wanna sell me black Suade Seats from the r1 :D
mmmm black Suade mmmm * drools.. * one day my interior will be all black n sexy ;P |
You are saying the the wheel is bent in the middle? As in the hub bolt surface is no longer true to the outer circumference? If so throw it away immediately. This is unrepairable and anyone who offers does not have your safety in mind. Wheel repair is basically for bent lips and the like and works well. You have a whole different animal.

Go to a Junk yard and buy one

Thanks all for the help..
Since I'm moving to the UK, we're putting off buying the wheel (the car will be sitting for like a month), and my wife gave me the go ahead to pick up some new rims, possibly Volks or Tenzos...thanks! |
