How come theres no low-pro 15" tires

I was thinking of putting some vert wheels on my TII but I can't find a 205 to fit on them thats lower that a 50 series. So no one makes a 205/(40 or 45)/15 tire at all?

Toyo T1-S 195/45-15. There are no 205's that I know of.

I don't understand why you would want to do that? The stock TII wheel is 16x7 with 205/55 16. Going down to a 15-inch wheel would require a 205/60 15. I would not reduce the wheel+tire diameter that much, it will have bad effects -- besides looking silly.

I understand the desire to use those BBS wheels, but the stock TII wheels+tires will perform much better.

The vert wheels, besides looking 100x better, are alot lighter. The TII rims are like the heaviest rims ever put on a 7. But I don't want some big profile truck tires on my car, ya know? I will be lowering it anyways soon. I guess 205/50/15s won't look too bad all around. This is just for the street so you know. I will keep my drag radials on my TII rims for the track.

A 205/50 15 will be 1.75 inches smaller in diameter than your stock wheel+tire diameter. That is a 7% difference from stock and is going to create major problems. For one, do you know if a 15-inch wheel will even clear your brake calipers and suspension pieces? Your rear end ratio will be shortened dramatically and your speedometer will be several mph off. I don't think you are aware of the potential consequences.....

If you want to replace your stock rims, it would be better to just wait until you have the cash to do it right.

These wheels are from an FC that has the same brakes. I don't see how I could have a problem except the speedo being off.

The GXL has 15's on it. Same brakes as the T2. Those 15's had no problems with clearance.

I see a couple problems w/ using low profile tires on 15" vert rims on a TII-

1) The car will be VERY LOW if it is lowered just to the point the fender gap isn't silly looking.

I run 225/50-16 on 8" wide rim and lowered so that there is a "thumb's" width of fender gap. It is just street-able for me. I have to pull up/back out of my driveway at an angle to avoid dragging my exhaust (single- not stock) and there are certain places I cannot go w/ out scrapping even more than the exhaust.

2) You will have very little traction in 1st gear. A mildly modded TII loses it a the top of 1st gear- add 1/2" narrower rim, much lighter rim and tire and the resultant reduction in gear ratio from the overall shortness of the combo and you will have no traction in 1st and will probably lose it in 2nd.

I think it would look good and be fun to drive, but you would have to be very careful on the street w/ it. :)

Well I will have other rims for the back when I want to race. But this is mainly for looks, plus it will help me on the street since it will be lighter some and I won't be doing drag racing on the street. Overall they will mainly be for looks.

which is the vert rim ??? the 16" mesh ???

Ryde _Or_Die 03-20-03 01:09 AM

No, the 15" BBS ones. They are sort of mesh-looking, but they have more of a lip to them.

9ine Deuce 03-20-03 04:04 PM

OK, ya I have those on my 929, they are sweet wheels, they wiegh like 10lbs. I was thinking about painting the center mesh part black, what do you think ?

9ine Deuce 03-20-03 04:06 PM

oh yeah, they make 225/50/15 (BMW OEM) look into those tires - Michelin

88IntegraLS 03-20-03 10:30 PM

Moving down in tire diameter is the same as moving up in rear axle ratio. I guess the GTUs 4.3 rear end is not a sought-after RX-7 part? I sure can't find one for sale.
