Help: 17x8in Rim/Tire on FD3S

I'm looking for a aggressive look in the rear for my 17x8in 5zigen rims. I've been searching for a few days but my main question hasn't been answered. I already have 245/40/17 on all four corners. I want to keep the 245/40/17 tires in the front but make the rear very aggressive looking with a nice wide tire on a 8in rim. Some people have told me to try a 315 or 275 width. I have koni yellow shocks with eibach ground control. I would like the widest tire without having any type of fitment rubbing issues. Has anyone used a 315 or 275/40 on a 17x8in rim on a FD? I was thinking of going with Toyo t1r's, but any other company suggestions will help greatly. I'm not looking to spend $250+ per tire. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jay7..

Jay, you'll need wider rims in the back. The widest that you can go on an 8 inch rim is a 255, as far as I'm aware. I run 10 inch wide rear rims with 275 rubber.

:rlaugh: That won't fit AT ALL! You're going to need a 9.5" wheel and wider to accomodate those sizes. As "GoodfellaFD3S" alludes to, you can try stretching on a 255/40-17 but another 10mm isn't going to make much of a visual difference on an 8" wheel. Either keep what you have (you'll have neutral handling BTW having the same sizes all around), or spring for some wider rear wheels.

Thank you,

Sumitomos has the 315 you are looking for a rock bottom price... The only things wrong are, that tire will probably last you a 100,000 miles and that they are really wide with half the traction of the toyos... My friend has them on his 97 Mustang with 10.5 inch custom wheel and they just barely fit... Plus the stang appears to have a wider wheel well than the FD...

I think he paid $195.00 each with free shipping... not sure...

Another thing is with an fd I dont think you want to put an old school look with the over sized tires on a narrow rim in the rear... Cornering with that set up might be unsafe...

Good luck,
Dwayne

I've seen 285s on a 8" wheel. Not pretty.

a little late, but iam currently running 285/35/18 out back on a 9.5 rim, and theres alot of space left i cant see you have fender problems with a 275 at all
