hawk plus VS hawk blue pads
 

anyone have experience with either of these pads? i have hawk plus on my miata, but the dust is insane and is eating my wheels alive. ... but they brake like mad and dont fade! any experience or comparisons would be great, cause im trying to pick

Do NOT use Hawk Blues on the street. Corrosive dust will eat into your wheels and paint and pads will eat the rotors.

moreso than the hawk plus???? i have them on my miata, and they are exactly how you are describing the the hawk blues.... the rotor wear is not outrageous though (from what ive seen so far...)

Hawk HPS and HP+ are street pads, the Blues, Blacks, and HTs are strictly track pads. No offense, but 2 minutes of looking at Hawk's website would have answered your question.

yeah, i have been on their website a few times trying to decide. i have also been looking around here, and on miata.net for some info. the miata guys will run track pads on the street (my hawk+ have a "warmup" time where as the blues dont... id think they blues (or blacks) would be more suited for the street). do you have experience with any of these? if so please tell me your experiences. i dont see how the blues would be any worse than the hawk+ on the website they say that the blues are relativly low dust/rotor wear if im remembering correctly. i cant see how any pads could eat the wheels more than my hawk+ pads.... wash car in morning, come back after a bit of spirited driving and the rims are pitch black.

Blues are a track only pad. If you insist in using them on the street you will never get the pad hot and therefore it will eat your rotors very quickly. Even when it's hot it eats your rotors more quickly than an HP+ or any other street type pad.

The HP+ are not race worthy. They will stand up to a few laps on a roadcourse and I have done it, but they are by no means a true track pad. Ask yourself why Hawk has Blues and Blacks available...

Brake pads are no different than anything else. You never get to have your cake and eat it too.

damonB thanks for the explanation, it was really helpful in sorting things out.... i wish they would list descriptive info on the manufacturers site. ok well, blues being out, is there anything else that you guys would recomend (any other brand, pad, etc) similar to the abilities of the hawk+ but maybe w/ less corosive dust? ive never gotten the hawk+'s on my miata to fade even w/ multiple 130-0 stops... so maybe the hawk+ is just overkill.....

maybe the weight of the miata is a factor?

well there are lots of other brands out there but for once i just took the easy way out cause ive used them before and know they bite well, i just went with hawk+... goodbye clean wheels

I'm using the Bonez Stage I pads from rx7.com .

They have a very good initial bite for the street and low dust. As with the other upgraded street pads, they are not for the track.

130-0? I'll let that one go. I take it you're running on street tires and not exactly putting down eye-popping lap times. Don't take it wrong, but I just don't think you've pushed the HP+'s far enough. Once you do, they WILL fade.

As far as the corrosiveness of the Hawk pad, it's kinda SOP for a lot of high performance brake pads. Spray down the wheels with a garden sprayer after events ... it will help with the dust and keep your wheels from getting etched. Nevertheless, I've found that the ceramic-based pads are much better in terms of ease of dust removal and friendliness to your wheels & paint. I highly recommend the Carbotech products. Go here. For a dual purpose pad, I'd go with the Panther P+'s. I've also heard that the Wilwood J-compound is a good dual purpose pad .... very pricey though.

how's the braking power with the regular street, hps(low dust) pads? anyone have any expierence with them?

They are an excellent pad. They have more bite and heat resistance than stock pads and are clean as well. The HP+ does all the good things the HPS does even better but it is an extremely dirty pad and prone to squealing.

I don't think anybody would ever be sorry for trying the HPS on a street car.

well my dads subaru outback needed a new set of pads, so thought i'd try a set of the HPS on that car as a test. (subaru wanted $110 for the stock pads anyway, so i figured we couldnt go wrong and it would be an interesting test). i bedded the pads lastnight... as of then i couldnt get the wheels to lock up at all. i let them cool overnight so hopefully they will actually start braking now.

i know its not apples to apples, but ill comment on any differences i see/feel when i get the hawks on the 7.
