ground control coil-overs
 

Any opinions on the coil-over setups offered by Ground Control?

I mainly chose them because of price....I already had Koni yellows....and didn't want to invested many thousands on something like penske,koni 2812, arogosta's etc....

Something else to consider...if you have Koni yellows, and for the same price, you may want to look into Tripoint Engineering's coilover kit. I've heard the 550/450 springs with the GC induce oversteer. Presumably due to the 450 lbs. springs in the rear. In speaking with Tripoint I can install H&R springs (as opposed to Eibachs) with lower spring rates (500/350) and slightly longer length (additional spring travel) and achieve equivalent or superior (not verified yet) handling. Also, as your spring rates increase (i.e., over 500 lbs) you come closer and closer to the Koni yellow's ability to handle the spring rates. It was suggested to me that if you go over 500 lbs that you might want to consider re-valving the Konis. Of course this might be more suitable for a solely dedicated race car.

Just some thoughts.

At the very least talk with Jeff at Tripoint--knows his stuff and Tripoint has had great success in modifying RX-7's suspensions.

I agree with that statement about the koni's (stock vavled) not be able to handle much over 500lbs...my combo is 450/375 if I remember correctly

GC coilovers are great for the price, nothing can come close, but then again thats cause they are JUST the threaded collar, spring perches, and springs. GC lets you choose what height and weight spring you want so you can setup your car to your own specifications. They use linear rate Eibach springs and I have been very happy with them so far.

so if i had the koni yellows would i just need the ground control springs to control the ride height or do u need to replace the strut?

That's it, just get the GC kit and mount them to your Koni yellows.

We're doing a special on them right now, $510 or so plus shipping I think. Have to double check in the post below.

Really that cheap? Ground control sells them directly for $599 a set (for the FD anyway).

Ground Control sells for $299.00 plus shipping but camber plates will be needed as well so look at more expense.

That's like the honda civic price....they charge 599 for FD kits...just because one set is 299* does not mean all are....

No one makes camber plates for the FD because they wouldn't do anything. You can't adjust camber on a double-wishbone suspension by moving the top of the shock. The GC kit for the FD does come with aluminum plate upper mounts that attach to the end of the shock shaft with a rubber bushing (not a pillow ball, as is the case with some other upper mounts for the FD).

So, for an FD could I just get the GC kit with some Bilstein HD's? Would I need to get pillow ball mounts too?

Is M2's coilover kit the same as the GC?

I talk to Tripoint about the spring rates for the yellow Konis and I was told that they can only handle 20% over the stock spring rates. And, to run the 500/450 setup, I would have to run the double adjustable Konis.

I would call Tripoint to make sure what the yellow Konis can handle. Also, they are the west coast rebuild center for Konis in the US.

You can just get the shocks and GC kit. The GC kit comes with upper mounts. Pillow ball upper mounts are just a special kind of upper mount. Read about Mark's setup here for more details:
