GAB Super R's autocross settings
 

Anyone out there still running Super Stock with these shocks? I'm curious what shock settings your typically running and tire pressures that have worked (I'm on Kumho VictoRacers).

I typically set the fronts to 7 and the rears to 5, depending on track conditions (lower when bumpy- lower on rear with too much oversteer).Most people with GAB Super R'd FD start there.

As far as tire pressures go- I haven't used Kumhos. With Hoosiers I keep the pressures much lower than other folks with heavier cars- around 30-32 or so. Usually I'll start with 34-35 and back it out a bit depending on pressure differences front/rear after 1st run.

Thanks Gene, that confirms what I have read elsewhere. With the stock shocks I had settled on tire preasures of around 37 F, 34 R (typically maintaining the 3 lb F to R differential depending upon the course). I've tried to go lower but the results weren't very encouraging. I'm going to start out with the same and see how it feels.

I've caught glimpses of your car at some of the local events but we are always in opposite run groups (morning vs. afternoon). I definately look forward to meeting you one of these days.

I guess you noticed the other couple of RX7's around here. Max (the Blue Montego Touring) and I need to track you down the next time and share information. As long as we can keep the Z06's behind one of us than I'm happy.

I'll be at the next two WW events (they are in Everett in a couple weeks). I'm planning on being at the National Tour later this month too, I just hope I can get comfortable with these new shocks.

The shocks take some getting used to- primarily at the adhesion limit as, if set too stiff, the breakaway can be difficult to predict. However, with lower spring rates that might be okay (you have to use stock in SS, no?)

Met fast mike at the last Bremerton event. He gave me some good advise, but not good enough to beat Dieter (SM2)!

Interesting. I run a 93 R1 in ASP with 245/45/16 Kuhmos. My car is really lightly modded, DP, CB, GAB Rs and Eibach springs.

Anyway I have talked to former SS champ Tom Kotizan about tire pressures when he was running his SS R1 on Kuhmos, IIRC he advised me to run lower pressures, so I typically run 34-32 F/R and I haven't been able to crank the shocks up there without bad results (bouncing). I typically run my shocks 5 and 3 or 4 and 2.

When is your next event up there Gene? I'd like to come to a larger venue and get my butt kicked by some really fast guys:).

Kotzian was the one that advised me to go lower. He said he ran at 32 F, 29 R but when I started going lower my times suffered. He's an incredibly smooth driver and you rarely see him cause a tire to lose traction, for this mortal the responsiveness of the tire at higher pressure seems to make up for the potential of less overall grip.

Thanks for the shock settings, I think I'll start at the lower settings and work up.

You should come on up and give the Seattle area a try. The tour would be the best but we have a two day WW event coming up in a week or so.

Do you guys have a link for the schedule? Late July would probably work well for me. How do they run registration, first come first serve, certain limits on the # of people that can run?

I think I'm gonna try and make it, nothing like putting 500 miles on race tires on I-5:).

I'd suggest coming up Friday because you need to put a TireRack banner on your windshield (it can be a pain) along with some SCCA National Tour stickers (which I put on magnetic material). If you need a hotel room you should try to reserve it now, they tend to get sold out. Hope to see you there.
