Fd rx-7 2'' lowering cutting coils?
 

I need to lower my 1993 R1 FD RX-7 1.5-2 inches but want to do it the poor man's way cutting the 4 coils and I wanted to know if anyone here has any experience in doing this kind of work on an FD? Is it possible to do it without ruin the FD's handling or ride quality? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sell your car to someone that isn't a cheap ass, or lower it properly.

No... No one is going to recommend cutting springs. IIRC, the stock FD spring doesn't have any dead coils, so with any cut spring rate is going to rise exponentially with how much is cut. You can find sets of used springs here on the forum for extremely reasonable prices. Keep your eye on the for sale section. I know not everyone has a ton of money to blow on modifications, but at that point it comes down to , "If you arent going to do it right, dont do it at all"

Anyone with experience doing that kind of work most likely has a blown up pile of junk in their driveway. Seriously don't cut corners with these cars, it will screw you every time. Plus thats a really stupid idea.

don't be cheap. it's dangerous to cut springs. Cut springs makes the vehicle extremely bouncy and if you hit a pot hole at high speed, the car will spin out. If that happens most likely you will total the 7.

wait, save up money and do it properly. you and your FD will appreciate it

Coilovers or proper springs. Those are your only real options.

I dont mean to be mean but you should seriously sell your car and buy a civic or 240sx. dont be a cheapskate on an FD..

:lol::lol: you are totally wrong I bought my FD 19 years and 2 Months ago from a local Mazda Dealer since it was brand new which is a pleasure I seriously doubt that you have had the chance to enjoyed and I still keep it after all of this years because I love its design and simply because I've liked RX Cars all of my life. I've own several RX-7s and other rotary powered cars.
I was just asking for advice there is no need to react mean to a simple question.....

haha i think what they meant is ask on a honda forum. hehe. im sure they have lots of cut springs. i think its worth saving up for springs, should be less than 200USD for eibach prokit.

I bought a set of Sprint lowering springs it says in the description that they lower the car 2'' in the front and back.

i didnt even know sprint was still making stuff. i remember buying a set for my honda accord 10+ years ago. the ride was decent but over time they started to sag and get real low... then bounced all over the place.

maybe theyre better now who knows

Are you putting those on the OEM shocks? What are the spring rates?

yes OEM shocks....I'm not sure about the spring rates what I found is that they are 25% stiffer than the OEM springs.
