Fc3s Pulling to the left?
 

Hi All.

I have a problem with My 90 T2, I bought the car a few months ago after being stood for some 5 years, I did the usal checks abd it seemed fine.

Now after it has been run every day for 2-3months now but after 1 month it started pulling to the left (I'm in the UK so RHD car), nothing to bad so i put it down to Tracking and kind of left it.

Now after a month of doing this it has started to get worst and i had another look at the FT tyres and they are wearing funny. The left hand one is worn on the outer edge and the right hand one is worn on the inner edge quite badly.

I would like to say i have not hit anything or Curbed it whilst i've owned it and looking at the rims they have never been curbed.

I've had a look under it again today but on a jack i can only realy tell if there's bushings still there or not? (Cant realy see the condition).

As you can proberly tell i'm not to clued up on Suspension/Geo so i thought i'd ask before pulling it to bits.

You should plan on getting an alignment. If your tires are wearing funny then that is at least one of the problems. Check to make sure your ball joints/tie rod ends are in good condition also.

Basic suspension maintenance bro.

If you push down on the front of the car quickly does it come back up and stop..... or does it cycle up and down (bounce) a few times. It is doesn't stop immediately your struts are worn out.

I have done the simple stuff, the struts are fine its level and firm.

I have done the tracking and had a look at ball joints etc and cant see any thing worn.

I guess i am better of buying a set of polly bushings and replace them, i should come across any problems that way.

http://www.suspension.com has the bushings.

About $100 for the Energy Suspension bushings..... apply the grease liberally.

You will still need an alignment if the car is pulling and wearing tires unevenly though. Replacing the bushings may help but the bottom line is that you will need an alignment.

Can you belive this, i have just sorted out the problem with my car :).

I did a full Geo and it showed up nothing while it was on the lift being preped i noticed the worn tyre was getting quite bad so i decided to buy some cheap tyres to keep it legal and roadworthy.

Now concidering i drove from the Geo place to the Tyre one and there was no diffrence the drive home from the Tyre shop was quite weired. I had lost all the symptoms it ran in a line no vibrations etc.

I dont understand how a tyre could effect the car so badly when there was no visable damage and it had aprox 1.5mm of tread on the bad bit.

I am very happy i've got it sorted, more luck that anything else.
