FC Brake Upgrade?
What are the FC guys using for brakes on the circuit? I've got an '87 Turbo II that'll be used for ST1/ST2 events once the build is done and not sure what to use as far as brakes are concerned. Talking with some, they just use the factory TII brakes with Hawk pads or similar... That just doesn't seem enough to keep up with the ST1 cars given their wt/pwr ratios.
Is there another car out there that can utilize the same basic components of the FC that is larger? Example... In my Lexus IS300, I could use the brakes off of a Turbo Supra that were larger and worked fantastic. Thanks for your input! -Tyler |
frijolee is alllmmooosst ready to sell his BBK. its a set of small parts to adapt OEM FC calipers over 350z rotors. i believe they are ~2" bigger diameter, and you get a decent variety of 1&2 piece choices.
in the mean time any decent race pad, ducting, and cheap blanks should be fine. |
TII brakes are actually pretty damn fantastic. Most car nowdays don't even come with lightweight 4 piston front calipers and light weight rotors. Did you know an FD/FC front brake rotor weighs half as much as a G37 brake rotr? Less rotating mas my friend. So upgrade to hawk pads and stainless lines. If that isn't enough THEN GO BBK.

Well to give an idea... We're looking at roughly 400whp with a race weight of ~2500 to compete in the ST1 class in NASA. The 4 piston fronts is a big plus, but is there really enough rotor surface to get a nice bite along with heat dissipation?
In that idea, would something similar to utilizing a larger rotor with the OEM caliper be up to par? And with something like the 350Z rotor, there is no machining necessary? Not really interested in constantly machining blanks each time I need to replace. And with something like the 350Z setup, will that clear 17" wheels (depending on backspacing that is)? I'd love to run a 15" but I just don't see that being possible. |
Someone did a evo brake kit on a FC a little while ago. Didn't take to much modification.

350z setup clears some 17's. its still basically a prototype kit (i think only two guys are running them?) and so far 17x8 mustang GT wheels dont clear, but FR500's and several other aftermarket wheels do.
i dont think theres a dedicated thread to the setup yet, but im sure there will be as soon as he's ready to start selling. there will be a GB when that happens . somewhere in the neighborhood of 400, supply your own rotors. |
