do springs ever wear out?

im thinking about gettin new struts for my r1 but i like the ride and height of the stock r1 springs just wondering if the springs can ever wear out and loose their springness

springness... lol... well springs do wear out.. but it takes a very very long time... you can find a shock/spring dyno u can find out how much they are actually helping you...

BTW, all springs on the FD are exactly the same. The R1 just has different SHOWA shocks making a stiffer ride.

Take a paperclip and straighten it out. Now flex it back and forth until you have two pieces. This is might be pushing it as an example for metal fatigue but it holds true for springs. Granted, spring sag takes a long time to happen but it does.

Oh yeah, they wear out. You should see this kid's Jeep -it sags REALLY badly.

They wear out more quickly when your struts are blown and you continue to drive on them. This just causes more spring oscillation ever time you hit bumps, turn corners, brake, accelerate, or pretty much do everything. More spring oscillations equal quicker wear.
