correct offset for enkei rpm2's? what tire size...? fender flares?
 

i'm looking to get a set of rpm2's 17x8 for the fronts, 17x9 for the rears, wondering what offset i should be looking at...?

Also, anyone know about rolling out the fenders or anything to accomodate a wider tire than a 225 in the front for an s5 gxl?

One more thing about the offset. Would it be bad to get something that would put a little more space between my wheel and the car? I had 225's on my stock rims and when one of the rears blew, i found out it was rubbing against the heatshield and the metal bar thing (180 degrees away from the heatshield in the rotational pattern of the tire... sorry, don't know how to describe it)... i was thinking maybe if i got something that gave me a few mm more space, i could prevent that from happening again (and i already bent my heatshield back closer to the exhaust.

if it makes a difference, i'm going to be running these w/ kyb agx and eibach pro's... not sure what size tire i should go with... suggestions?

+35 mm on the front 17x8
+40 mm on the back 17x9

+40 on the rear since that the only size that enkei makes that will fit right in the back. Ideally +35 all the way around is best.

235/40/17 is max tire fitiment, the problem is that it doesn't rub the fender, but the springs. You have to becareful about that.

d'oh! it rubs the springs? i always thought it rubbed the fender (i've seen people who's tires have scars from the fender.... and i'm assuming 235/40 is max on the fronts... how wide could i get away w/ for the rears? i've seen 255's on an 8.5, so i'm thinking maybe 265 or 275....? not that i need that wide of a tire but....... it looks tight :) it's for the ricer in me, lol

you can maybe get away with 235/40/17, but you would have to have zero camber. You could maybe run a spacer, like 3 to 5 mm. I think if u run a 5 mm spacer the centre caps will clear the dustcap of the front wheel bearings.

But you may then hit the outside of the fender liner, hence you will need to roll it.

maybe 2.5 inch OD coilovers would be better... i'm not sure.

well, i don't need wider than 235's in the front, so it's all good.... what 'bout the rears, cheers?

i think the rears can take up to a 275 tire... i'm unsure about this... so if buy it and try it and it doesn't work... don't blame me...

275s will stick out a lot... i'm not sure what offset max has on his car.

damn that's wide!!! maybe i'll go w/ 265's....

there isn't much selection for 265 tires... i find it is either 255 or 275.

Beware of your gearing. I would suggest sticking to a 255 but I guess that all depends on how much power you're putting down.

well ideally 275/35/17 is good... only 1.2 % off from the size of 205/55/16

but 275/40/17 is only 3.1% off

not too bad... but i have to agree.. i think 255 is plenty wide... considering stock is 205... u are already getting an extra 50 mm of thread..

rishie, do 2.5 in OD coilover springs help with the tire rubbing the spring? or is it hte same as stock, it will rub regardless. I'm not sure.

275's will fit on the rear....I have them on my car with 17 x 9.5" Enkei RPF1's w/ 2 deg NEG camber. 10's will fit too but Enkei had a hard time coming up with another wheel for me and I had to settle for 9.5's :) ohhh well.

235's will fit on the front with a 17 x 9" wheel w/ 1 deg NEG camber...

I do know of someone with 245's on the front and 285's on back with no flairs...

yeah, i don't really think i need a 275, i'm not putting down that much power (i'm n/a :)) but it'd be nice to look at.... so it's between 275's and 255's.... won't 255's look kind of small on 9 inch wide wheels?

funny you ask that but a 245-255 stretch'd on a 9-10 wheel is really the shit for the track....It makes the car stiffer with less role....When I got my 9.5's I had a 255 on there and it looked wide as hell on there, but I thought the whole reason for getting a wide wheel is to hook up and so I opt'd for the 275'R...

If you look at real race cars alot of them run narrow'r tires on wide wheels...but then again a 315 on a 12-13" wheel isn't exactly narrow :)

well, i won't be using these for track... i'll be keeping my stock turboII wheels and putting maybe some azenis sports 225/50/16's on them.

as for the avatar chick, she's a model i ran into at both mr. olympia and at sema last year... what can i say, she was a hottie!! nicest girl you'll ever meet at one of those shows too

question.... so if i go with 225's in the front and 255's in the rear... will the tires be too small looking for an 8" and 9" rim on my fc?

in my opinion if i can't run anything that is 235 or more on any wheel i've wasted 1200+ dollars on wheels and tires. I can accomplish 225/50/16 on my stock TII meshies...

if i only got 225/45/17 on the fronts on a rim that cost 200+ dollars i would be pissed.

You can fit 235's on front, just might have to tweek things depending on offset, camber, toe, etc.... I know of someone who has 245's

well what would it take to put wider tires in the front without rubbing...? that's the thing, i don't want my fender cutting up my tires if i corner hard... that's the thing i'm worried about...

as for the rims, i'm getting hooked up with them... new for <175/wheel

just get the +35 offset front 17x8

if it rubs the spring then add a spacer. Start at 2 mm and work your way up to 5 mm.

if u use a spacer u will need to roll the outer fender lip so i doesn't cut the tire. I think rolling fenders cost around 80 Canadian dollars per fender.

what kind of place does fender rolling? any pics of what it looks like?

body shops offer it. same with some tire/wheel places that push out a lot of aftermarket alloy wheels.

Also what are u doing for centre caps? the ones that come with the wheels won't fit over the dust cap/axle lock nut on the FCs.
