Several people have already fabricated Porsche brakes on their cars. Albeit, they were Porsche 993 Turbo big red calipers. Fritz Flynn, Damian, and Brad Barber have done this mod. Check the archives. I think there used to be a company that made the hats for a FD too, but that was about 6-7 years ago and they might be defunct.

ok so i just ordered up the 14inch g37 rotors cus you guys were right, when im going to fit my 18s for the track they wont fit.

so last night i ordered the g37 front rotors for $240

so the total so far is about $762

i'm going to do some test right now of braking distance on the stock brakes
i'll do from 20mph-0, 40mph-0, then 60mph-0

be back later with the results

i m still gonna bet its going to be over $1000 when its all said and done

I really want to see this too. 20x10 BBS LM's weigh 26.5 lbs. If these are over 5lbs lighter and half an inch wider than the bbs' that would be amazing......Are you sure they weigh just over 20lbs?

ok i weighed in my wheels today, and its not my wheel that was just over 20 pounds :crying:
my wheels at 20x10.5 weighed in that 27 pounds rounded up...i'm pretty sad i'm not gona lie

but on the brighter note, i wasnt completely wrong about the weight that i told you guys about before...its our X-10 model wheel that weighed in at 20.89lbs at 20x9.5
so our wheels are extremely light weight and strong it just wasnt my face

but hey the nice thing is all i gota do is swap out the FM-10 face thats on my wheel now with the X-10 face, so pretty soon i will have my 20s weighing in at about 21ish pounds

have you compared price and effort with a caliper system off 350z or g35 by chance? just curious. I would imagine them simply saying porsche would jack price up a bit, also dont know about cayanne lug pattern but 350z/g35 i know is 5x114.3, what is the cayannes?

I have a buddy that works for one of the big bbk manufacturers. I guess the G35/350Z Brembos are one of the weaker out there. I think he said the Brembos from the Evo's have a slight advantage in cooling. Probably not a huge difference but just wanted to throw that out there.

Probabbly will hold up better since an rx7 weighs so much less then a 350z

i was going to do the evo brembos on my FD first, but then i decided if i'm going to do a BBK i gota go big or go home since i'm on 20s...thats pretty much the only reason i went with the 6 piston porsches, cus they will provide a lot more stopping powering cus they need to stop a 4000 lbs truck lol

I think 14" is perfect you don't see too many front and rear bbk for the fd cause in most cases the stock brakes are sufficient for the car in many peoples eyes. The largest bbk for the fd i can think of is a 6 pistons with 355mm rotors. Really looking forward to this build.

So how much the pads run? The only reason I'm asking is because a buddy of mine owned a boxster s and when it came time to do a brake job the total price was like 2K :eek:. Hence wondering how much was the stealership taking him for.

I don't understand why you're trying to do BUDGET big brakes... the time and money you spend trying to figure all this out and having custom brackets made you could have just bought the BBK from RacingBrake and been done with it.

Sometimes the satisfaction of doing something, especially if it costs less $ is more important then the time saved by doing a cookie cutter install, or having someone else do it. I do that with pretty much every modification on my FD, I might spend all day on something and save $80, but I would much rather be working on my FD then doing my actual job to make the $80. Hell I might spend all day on something and save $10. Still worth it to some of us.

Or just spend as much money as possible on a part because it's Japanese and rare.

I always encourage budget projects. I know not everyone has $2,500 to drop on brakes, $4k to spend on a turbo kit, or $1,500 to spend on a V-Mount. There are alotta people who have a family to support but still want to tinker with the car that all of us enjoy.

I like what you are doing. I have the same plans for my rx7 when I get her back. It is possible to make this happen. See the above link. The tred jacking intened. I'm local and would love to see it and order some brackets for my personal car.

hey when you get all the components in drop them on a scale. Drop the stock ones on too for a comparison. I'm just curious.

For comparison sake the racingbrake kit for the fd (front only)

13" rotor = 16.7 lbs
caliper = 5 lbs

ok so i got the first package in today, one of the calipers...

this isnt the same cayenne caliper i test fitted from my friend's cayenne turbo s...this f%^&er is huge...theres gona be so much hating cus it is a heavy ass caliper, but i really dont care anymore just cus of the shear size of the thing, i've lost sight of weight functionality, and i'm now gona install it just to say i have the biggest possible brakes u could fit on an rx7 and i really dont care who bashes and hates on it, the fact of the matter is, its sick as hell lmfaoooooo

so this thread is still to do the build, i'm just gona say that u guys running the 18s should not buy this exact caliper

more like an 18 wheels man...its gona be a tight fit...i dont even know if its going to clear, we'll see what happens lol i'm gona pull the wheels off tomorrow and make sure they fit inside the barrels

and the brake pad surface is the size of my hand...ye...

you guys really dont understand how big these things are...but they are the size of a new born baby...
