Brake pedal pushes my foot up
 

When I switch the car off with my foot pressing on the brake pedal as soon as the engine stops the brake pedal starts lifting itself to it's normal position. It pushes my foot up with some force and I don't want to put pressure on it so I just lift my foot.

Never had this in any other car I've owned or driven so is this normal? Is there air in the system or some other problem?

Normally when you switch a car off while pressing on the pedal, the pedal stays where it is or maybe comes up gently until you release it and then the pedal becomes hard if you want to press it again after. With my car the pedal feels like wood as soon as you shut it off.

That's because you loose your vacuum which powers you power brake assist.

Ok cool. I guess it has to do with the system of the RX7 like I said I don't remember any other car doing that, the pedal normally stays where it is until you release it.

My Titan does this too.

That's your vacuum bleeding out of the brake booster. It's not supposed to do that actually. It means your check valve might be bad, the brake booster vacuum line, or the seal on the brake booster that seals the rod from the brake pedal. The best way is just to listen closely while working the pedal. If you can hear air leaking inside the car, it's the brake booster seal. If not, it's one of the other two. Very cheap and easy to fix.

It's a safety item because during the event you lose engine power, you still need power brakes. Usually there is enough vacuum for a full stop. But if it's leaking, no. And of course vacuum leaks make your car run badly.

Thanks, I will check all those things. I don't recall hearing air leaking inside the car though.

My car has vacuum, water, oil and all sorts of leaks at the moment (probably because i haven't driven it much since I got it) and I didn't fix anything cause I'll give it a fresh rebuild and replace all hoses with new ones.

Having said that brakes are important and a brake pedal that pushes your foot up hard does not feel right.

My Titan doesn't do it as extreme as the FD. Yeap my check valve was there just for looks. Just happen to have an extra one.
