brake booster touching..

I have a SR20 in my FD, and I'd like to do something with the booster.. The manifold is about 1/4inch away from the booster.. Does anyone have reccomendations on what I should do? I was thinking about a full tilton floor mount pedal set up, but I'm still unsure on which brake system I will end up with..

Guys, no swap comments please.... MOVING to the brake forum.

thanks^..

before anyone asks why I did a sr swap vs ls1.. I have a few sr20s around, if I blow one I have 5 more to put in.. I also have many parts for a sr20.. and s15 goodies..

NICE SWAP by the way, wow, looks good!

there are other brake boosters that bolt up, I have a friend who used a Integra-TypeR mc&booster in his FC and the bolt pattern is common with the FD as well, although I dont think the booster was any smaller so it doesnt help you exactly yet but the point is that there may be other brake boosters from other makes and models that might be a smaller diameter and clear your motor.

there are some BMWs that came with a remote mounted booster and that may be of interest to you.

also, I dont know what the internals of a brake booster look like but I wonder if you can open it up and chop off some of the area thats in your way and seal it up without any issues? or give it a solid whack to have a nice dent/recess where you need the clearance and then you willl have room to add some type of heatshielld

it looks like there is plenty of clearance but I guess without the manifold on there is no way for me to know. you should just get some of that super reflective heat barrier gold sticky paper (BLING!) from enjuku racing or something similar but basic from summit racing.

Unfortunately not an option. Inside the booster is a rubber bladder. The booster needs to stay round and you can't "dent" the housing as this would impede the bladder from moving around properly.

If we're only talking about fractions of an inch I'd look into moving the entire pedal and brake booster assembly. It would require some fabrication but I bet it wouldn't be too bad.

why not get a new manifold made up???

RX-Spec7 04-13-07 12:53 AM

is the car a t2? if not the t2 came with a smaller double stacked booster for space saver reasons. you might want to try that but make sure you have the 4 piston calipers up front and you need to change the master cylender too. or it will mess up your break pedal geometry.

I decided to go with a custom Tilton floor mount setup.. Will post pictures later..

I read on another forum that there was a smaller diameter brake booster in some of the earlier FB rx7 bodystyle that is 1.5" smaller in diameter, giving you 3/4" more clearance for your manifold.

but best of luck on the tilton setup, cool stuff!

Having booster diameter issues myself. Can anybody confirm that this comment is true about the FB boosters being 1.5" smaller.

Thanks
