Bleed Screw Broke!

Help!

The previous owner of my car installed a Stoptech brake kit. Somehow he overtorqued and jammed the bleed screw so that when I tried to open it, it snapped in half... Currently where the bleed screw was is now a broken piece of metal level to that of the caliper. I have no way of opening/closing or removing the screw. All i see is a small hole where the fluid was supposed to come out of.

How can this be repaired? Stoptech said they cannot help me.

Remove the caliper and see if you can use an ez-out.

I found a tip online: Find a square or hex bit to hammer into the bleeder bolt hole. you should be able to turn the bolt out after a few good whacks.

This didn't work!!! :cursing:

The bit snapped in half with it stuck in the center of the bleeder hole. Now this is going to make drilling very difficult.

Your shit must be way frozen then. I even used a cheap Chinese bit and didn't have that problem. Mine actually broke up the bleeder a bit and I had to re-hammer it.

That is some real shitty luck.

I was researching this problem a bit and I've seen quite a few threads where backouts actually break. I'm going to have a friend drill it out and use a Wilwood Bleeder Repair Kit. It basically acts as an adapter where you drill and tap the old broken off bleeder. Hope this works, I'm not looking forward to buying a replacement Stoptech caliper.

I would think Stoptech could sell you the bare caliper half.

If they sell just the half, that would be great.

I'm wondering if I should drill and tap the passage/body of the caliper for a new bleed port.

That would be a question for StopTech.

Problem Solved: Friend had a set of Tungsten Carbide tipped drills, which is designed for drilling through hardened steel. The rest came out with an ez-out. ~whew
