best conservative wheel/tire setup?
 

What is the best conservative setup for a 1987 rx-7 GXL n/a? What I'm looking for is just a setup that is as sporty as the car but something I'll be able to drive day to day rain included. I currently have 215/50/14 all around. I got these with the car when I bought it just recently.

8" front, +27, 225 wide tire
9" rear, +30, 255 wide tire
Wheel diameter is up to you.

What about actual Tire brand and model? I don't really want to head into a tire shop and ask them because all they want to do is sell me tires that they think I want AKA the most expensive. So does anyone know a good tire for the setup listed above?

That is hardly conservative for a FC NA, Ted.

I had 4 Turbo IIs and one GTU. I hated staggered tires (bigger in rear) on the FC unless the car had big power. The understeer just sucked on the street. I really enjoyed the way my GTU felt with 205s on the street. It was well balanced and fun and I was still able to break them loose when I wanted to.

As far as tire I'd get the Toyo T1S for 3 season driving. They are great in the rain. The Dunlops are nice too, but I haven't driven the new 9000s.

I've been on 225/50/16 front Dunlop SP8000 and 245/45/16 rear B.F.Goodrich Comp T/A on the track, and this FC was very neutral.

Same car running 225/50/16 Toyo RA-1's on the track was neutral but easy to induce mild oversteer.

I didn't say it was the best performance combination.

Most people asking for tire combinations do not drive even 8/10ths in their cars.

The above recommendations was for conservative biggest wheel and tire combinations to run in an FC.

You can run bigger.
You can run smaller.

Hmm what do you guys think of this combo? These

I know I might catch some flack for wanting some ebay wheels but I'm not going to be racing this car on a track or anything, just day to day cruizing and mabye some fun on back roads. but if you guys say they won't work for these tires or they are POS's then I'll take it over what some ebay salesman says. Also what what is the ideal offset for this car and wheel width?

I am cheap, so I picked up a set of stock s5 turbo 2 rims, and a set of avs es100 225/50/16. They look ok, stick ok, and drive ok. I picked the es100 because it seems silly to chew up a nice set of tires learning to drive.

Do you want to rotate? You have a couple options.

Wheels: Rota has some 5x114.3 wheels in 17x8 they released for EVO and will work on FC. Also, 5Zigen FN01RC makes a good offset and width.

Contact these guys and they'll take care of you. They have many FC's at the facility.

Oh, I forgot this ungodly stagger...

235 front, 295 rear
That's about as extreme a stagger as you can get.
The car is a custom wide-body to get them to fit.
The owner / driver isn't a Michael Schumacher, but we got this car to hit 150mph, and he didn't manage to hit anything.

I wouldn't recommend running such a large stagger, but for street driving it's "okay".
