I know their rims are like, $900 each rim...but its amazing what it does for the looks of any high end sports car or luxury exotic.

Any sports car, from Miata to Maranello, can look 10x better if left alone (i.e. No body kits!) and simply dropped "modestly" on a nice rim with a lip.

They have a plenthera of shots on very nice cars, but does anyone have an FD (or a photo of one) on HRE's? I'd love to see em!

Wish I could afford these, but I'll have to settle for a different brand, but very similiar design no doubt. 17's for me.

 

I don't think they'll even let you sniff the alluminum for $900... it's more like $1200/per.

while I agree they look great I dont think there is any reason to spend that much money on wheels, especially with CCW cranking out very high quality wheels in any custom size or offset you'd ask for, I mean why not spend the leftover money on everything else you could gfet for your car?! There are 100 other wheels I would buy before I spent the money on HREs, even if money was not an option. I would guess you'd be lucky to find some pics of HRE's on a FD... the closest I've seen are BBS LM's...

I assume your talking about John's 3-piece units as his new line of one-piece wheels are quickly approachjing HRE prices.

HREs, Kinesis, (some) BBS, Fikse, etc. are very expensive compared to the traditional CCWs and other wheels of similar size/construction. In terms of functionality there's no difference in a $1,200 HRE versus, say, a $450 CCW. Arguably the CCW will offer better performance due to lower mass, but that's another topic.

This discussion is analagous to a $500 paint job versus a $4K paint job. The $500 paint performs just as well as the $4K product, but looks like a $500 paint job. CCWs are low budget wheels that look like low budget wheels, but perform similarly to more expensive counterparts. I use them exclusively on the track- where they belong IMO.

I'll have to disagree here a little Gene, i bought the ccw same as what you have but in the street style for the looks and the performance.I think they are a beautiful looking wheel and definately cannot be compared to a $500 paint job,especially when mine with tyres ended up costing me 2500 sterling,thats dickin on $5000usd,not cheap wheels for me.

 

Ahh well guys I know $5k for just rims is a bit wacky, and since I more than likely won't do it, I just wanted to see how they looked on an FD.

I've seen almost the exact same styles in other brands too, so you could have a similiar look with less.

I just don't see that many great rim choices with some owners here (but that's all difference of opinion) and would like to see these on an FD...

I'm looking to replace the Blitz wheels I have on the car (type 03)
I really like the look of the ADR M sport I think they are???? The mesh ones with a huge lip I've seen a few RX7 pics here and I really like em.
I'm wondering if ADR is any good and if anyone knows a nice place to get them from?

ADRs arent bad, but arent the best quality, and are heavy, but the m sports do look sweet.

 

Behold the beauty, and behold the weight. They're nice looking wheels for sure, but HRE wheels are HEAVY!

 

speedking, when you say heavy....how heavy do you think the HRE's 18's in a 8.5 and 9.5 set would be? I have the adr m-sports now and I know in the future I want to go with a much more quality wheel with a more friendly offset. I have looked at forgelines, kenises and I thought HRE's would be in that same quality wheel catagory but I don't want them if they are heavy????......I have that issue with my ADR M-sports now.

 

An HRE 545 in an 18x10 weighs 27 lbs. That's almost double what an early stock FD wheel weighs!

HREs are definitely a nice wheel, however, IMO they're more for show and the "bling" factor.

Kinesis, and Forgeline (and CCW and Fikse) are more "purpose-built", and you'll actually see cars w/ these wheels on the track.

 

Well, yeah. You don't see too many "Chrome Rims" on the tracks. I wouldn't expect people looking for "track rims" to be buying HRE's. Then again, not everyone is tracking their cars or looking for track rims.

 

lol i guess heavy is all relative. My 18x11 and 18x9.5 wheels with tires weigh the exact same amount as my stock rims with tires. Stock rims are 17x9.5 and 17x8. I have a supra tho not an rx7.

They are comparing the stock FD wheels, which are 13/16 lbs depending on the type. So, going from 16lbs to 27lbs. Not that it's going to keep you from beating a stock Civic at a stoplight race.....

 

Especially since the Civic has some 35lbs per corner chrome wheels lol
