anybody know if this wheel will is avialble for a fd??

I know I am reviving an old thread, but I searched and found this, my exact question. The application chart on this website shows two sizes fitting the fd (click on the rx7 fd3s option).

I would like some more real world knowledge of how these would fit and whether it looks like the offset would work with the 18x9s. I have stock suspension and no rolled fenders.

They are quite a chunk of change though.


Anyone have any pictures on an FD or know anyone running these?

You would very likely rub with a 18x9, +38 offset wheel (up front, rears would be fine). To put it into perspective, the wheel will stick out over an INCH further out than the stock wheel. This is about the same as an 18x10 wheel, +50 offset up front. Most people running this fitment have very stiff suspensions with close to stock ride heights to avoid rubbing.

yup... for a 9' front, you'd want more like a +45...

I've noticed that whenever you look at japanese fitment charts, it never looks like they spec even NEARLY enough offset... what do japanese drivers never turn their wheels??!

they are available but what bbs recommends is not what we would ideally want. The problem arrived when I supplied them with offsets and widths they produce. But they were unable to tell me if these wheels would clear stock calipers or even Big brake kits. therefore i can't take the liability.

I can however offer them to you if getting their recommended fitment.

The forum is asking for a lot of money on a monthly basis. I kind of wanted things to be setup a certain way and it wasn't done that way. I will contact them again. We simply do not sell enough product to justify the expense they are asking for. I come here to help and there aren't enough FD customers willing to pay for the caliber of wheels we carry all the time. It's a hit and miss situation.

I'll see if we can get the section back. I've just been very busy. I feel that i've helped the community enough that I shouldn't be asked to pay that much money. I've helped to grow this section a lot from where it started 4 years ago. We've brought some incredible information to the table with the help of several other senior adivsors too. hehe.

So that's the story. I haven't had time to sit down and go over logistics so I'll do so this weekend.

The original thread on this was about the nearly identical-looking RG-R. The RG-R is a one-piece forged wheel, while i believe the RS GT is a multi piece. The RGR is likely lighter, and comes in the same finishes.

For anyone wondering, no, you cannot order wheels through Rishie anymore. Unless you do it completely free of the Forum. I'll be watching your posts and PM's. If you paid the last bill and was at least current, then I wouldn't put the clamps down so hard. But this is business.

And if you're wondering "who do I order rims from?", well, I'll have an answer for that question soon too.

I had no intention of not paying that bill. It's that the archive type section would serve as a daily reminder for people to check for new specials. Hopefully we can work something out. But seriously the protege club doesn't do a thing and that expense for just this forum is huge.

The company is still around and I'll always have a warm welcome for anyone should they choose to call or email me. You can always search the internet for my name too. hehe. i'm sure it will come up somewhere. I've been doing wheel/tire consultations for quite some years now. There has to be history of me. hehe. We have supplied the forum's database with a wealth of information which should be easy to search for.

I should have communicated with you better. You can tell that my activity in our old section is virtually none. I needed that section at the top so I could post daily specials.

Well good luck on your conquest Ryan. Our emphasis has always been on wholesaling. The community has been awesome and I have a great respect for the caliber of product 90% of the FD guys put on their cars. You guys have good taste and with help from your vets will not diminish. I'm sure many have helped to shape the RX7's as an elite community of enthusiasts.

I've got a set of Simmons OM-18's for sale with Kuhmo tires. They look more like the BBS RR's, but they are a true 3 piece alloy wheel. The actual sizes are 18 x 8.5 and 18 x 9.5 with a 38mm offset. I can get you a hell of a deal on them if you're interested. These wheels currently cost $2300 new for the set (without the tires). I'm getting ready to post them on Ebay for around $1200.

I know this won't sit well with the higher up, but in defense of the members here I don't think it is anyone's business to tell us who we can buy wheels from and how. If I want to PM Rishie and ask him a question, then that is my business. If that isn't allowed then Rishie's username shouldn't be active here because we have all become accustom to his generous insight. Taking his section on the forum away due to circumstances mentioned is acceptable, however, that is a business problem as has been stated and shouldn't bring in the actions of telling the members here what they can and cannot do with their personal finances. I understand the owners here are not happy with the bill going unpaid, but to threaten members about buying wheels and saying you are going to monitor their posts AND PM's is just not cool. I'd hope we are a better community than that.

I never said you can't buy wheels from Rishie, just can't use the forums facilities to do so. Rishie is a personal friend of mine, and I wish him luck. But this is a business decision, and a fair one.

He's been a big help to all the forum member, and myself, for some time. So I cut him a bit more slack than I might someone else in a similar situation.

Regardless of the "business" situation members should be aware of Rishie's knowledge and access (along with prices) to great rims and tires. Because he has been a resource to our community I specifically went to his company for assistance. And, this was done independently of the forum.

For example, I've been searching for Toyo T1-S' in 275-40-17 sizes and I was told by several local stores that T1-S' are nationally back-ordered. So I called Auto RnD (Rishie) for assistance and they came through. Maybe it was their network or inventory--no matter--I got the exact product I was looking for.

RX-7 members (IMHO) should try when ever possible and reasonable to support vendor / mfg's who provide service and/or products to our small community--as opposed to the large retail stores.

And, this goes for RX-7 Store as well. The forum has been a great tool and I'd like to continue supporting them. As such, I try to buy from them whenever possible (e.g., Defi guages, HKS ignition, etc).

Just some thoughts...

I am honored to be recognized as an individual trying to help the community as opposed to a vendor per say. We only provide product to maybe 10% of the people I help.
