Axxis Metal Master vs Hawks pads
Before anyone says anything, I'm just looking for opinions on the pads, not the car that they are going on to.
It's almost time for me to do a brake job on my car(not the FC, it's somewhat undriveable at the moment) and I'm looking around on eBay for brake pads. My question is who's had any experience with any of these pads, who loves and hates which, etc..... Unfortunately, yes they are, came with the car when I bought it. I'd change them out, but I can't afford new rims right now, and I was able to pick up a set of brand new 245/50/17 BFG Scorchers for $50 apiece, so I'm gonna wear them out while I save up for some new ones. Here are the rims I'd like, in a 17x9.5 before they'd get powdercoated black

i've used both pads, but i prefer the Hawk pads (HP+) that i've used. i don't have anything bad to say about the Axxis pads, but i can say that i noticed a difference when i switched to Hawk. in fact, i'll be putting Hawks on all of my cars whenever i do brakes on them. they impressed me that much.
i had some difficulty finding the HP+ for all of my cars, but i will try the HPS on my Celica. |
I've had trouble getting HP+'s too, they (either the dealer or the distributor) assume that you really want HPS's and send those. I eventually had to get them rushed to me by Racing Beat in the week before the track day I was set to attend. They got there in a couple days. I'd been waiting weeks for the pads from a local dealer.

I tried the Metal Masters and liked them as long as on street tires and only for street use. For my taste they were not aggressive enough for any sort of use on race rubber.
If I had a car that saw strictly street duty I wouldn't hesitate at all to use Metal Masters. I really liked them on the street. |
i used hawk HP+ on my FD all around with gotham crossdrilled/slotted rotors and they totally hammered and had great pedal feel. my complaint is they were quite harsh for strictly street use. they are too squeaky and a little too hard for a street car in my opinion. i also have a buddy who ran them on his street miata and they ate up his rotors.
i am going to try out the axxis MM's on my FC next... my car is mostly a daily driver with occasional autocross and drag strip. SO, hopefully they will suit my needs better than the HP+'s |
I am almost certain that "Item: Hawk Performance Street Pad" means Hawk HPS pads. HP+ are very different from HPS.
I have used both HPS and HP+ but never tried Metal Masters, though I have heard good things about them. HPS dust a lot, don't have much bite but are generally decent in feel for street pads, and are subject to fading on heavy street use. HP+ dust a ton and often squeal but have excellent bite and pedal feel and are very hard to fade relative to other street pads (you almost certainly won't fade them on the street). I would try the Metal Masters. Or maybe try some EBC Greens. -Max |
I'm not buying any more Hawk pads....the dust is just too corrosive. I found the HPS pads lacked bite on the street. The HP+ have awesome friction but squealed loudly at any kind of light stop and dusted like mofos -- and they're still not good enough for track use.
I would pick the Axxis Metal Master over the HPS and the Axxis Ultimate over the HP+. |

I have Axxis Metal Master in my 911 Porsche and I like it. No dust build up on the wheels. No problems with braking in dry and wet condition. No noise. I notice that they brake better when the rotor get some heat.

I don't have any experiences with Hawk pads, but I read some others above talk about their AXXIS Metal Masters pads. I have AXXIS Cermaic/Kevlar pads on my FC, and they are good. They bite hard, they're quiet, and I haven't seen much dust from them. I've done a few stops from 90+ to around 40, consecutively, and didn't experience any brake fade. This was also with the stock single piston calipers all around, with drilled and slotted rotors in the front, and brembo blanks in the rear.

i really like my EBC green pads for the street...decent for light track/autocross use also i think, since they seem to perform better once they have got a little heat in them.
i chose the EBC over the Hawk HPS since it seemed to produce less brake dust, less noise, and perform just as well. just another pad for you to consider :) |
