any advantages?

im in a delima with selling my current wheels. i got them for free and recently got a good offer on them (maybe $400 or more). the problem is i really like them. they are 18x9 +24 offset and i think they fit and look perfect. the only problem is they are heavy. right now im am trying to weigh out the pros and cons. i was thinking that heavy wheels would contribute to better traction because of the wieght being on the tires. im not really into fast since my cars an n/a.

i was also wondering if it was possible to lighten the rims. maybe shave off some wieght.

what do you guys think? thanks in advance.

I would not recommend doing this.

Actually lighter wheels are better for traction, because it's the suspension's job to keep the wheels on the ground, not to keep the car off the ground, that's a common mistake. With heavier wheels it's harder for the suspension to control them when they bounce up and down, which leads to a loss of traction, especially on rough surfaces, as the tires aren't in contact with the road all the time. It'll also cause you to accelerate slower due to all that rotating mass acting like a big flywheel. Sell them and buy some 17x8's or smaller. The tires will be cheaper too for the smaller wheels.

i should of considered that before i sold my 4 sets of gt wheels. FUCK! well i do like the looks of 18's with stretch tires on a 9" better, i guess if i ever plan on going track ill through on my stock gxls or get some cheap vert bbs.

thanks for the replies.
