now i love the look of a 2" deep dish, but what is up w/ all these 4" d/d rims coming out? its absolutely nuts and it would be so nerveracking to drive b/c they're so expensive and could break like... ooops they broke. anyway, does anyone else share this opinion w/ me?

I'm not necessarily "against" the look, but it seems silly if it compromises other attributes of the wheel (weight, strength) just to achieve the deep dish look.

Amen,
I like it up to the point where it is compromising functionality.

i agree with all of you but some cars need really low offsets to clear suspension with wide wheels hence the big lip..

this = hotness!!

But if you got flares on the car, deep dish is a must. Although the deep dish on the FC looks a bit much, I'd rather have it look like that than have a widebody w/o rims that come flush w/ the body.

Although spacers might do the trick... I wonder how it feels like to drive behind a guy w/ that much of a contact patch from the rear wheels! Talk about intimidation!

I have a widebody FC, the wheels will be 17x12, and 17x10 with near zero offset. I think once again a good blend of form, and function is fine. I always wonder why so many people seek approval for wheels, colors, body kits, ETC? It's your car, if you like the look, and it functions as well, or better than stock, go for it. Cars are an extension of who you are, be yourself, show us what you've got

Now that's too much lip. If you notice, most of the sports car that race in Speed Channel World Challenge don't have deep dish rims... Know why? Cuz they have big *** brake calipers, and big calipers require more positive offset for the calipers to fit inside the wheel! The only deep dish wheels I've seen in racing are the SCCA Trans Am cars. I've always thought they look ridiculous IMHO. Kind of like the NASCAR style--tube frame, headlight decals...race cars. Oh well, at least the SCCA TA cars run road courses (hee hee LOL )

BTW, I'd bet the each rear wheel/tire alone on that FC weighs 65 lbs! Unless that FC has 700 brake horsepower under the hood scoop, which I doubt, that will be one SLOW FC. But hey...at least you'll look beastly standing still at the stoplight LOL

Yea, you're right Manni, those GT3 Porsches don't have very big brakes. I was at an ALMS venue two weeks ago, LOTS of wheels with 3-7" lips. If the wheel is 10-16" wide, a Zero offset still gives you plenty of room for brakes.But, as I said before, function first.

I like Rims with Lip on them too, But 4inch lip is way too much, I went to the tire store today checking out somes they have the New C4 fromRacing Harts **** had 4 inch lip on it, and Works Mezier same ****, they also have thei new rims call Maya for 4000 it had huge lip like close to 4 1/2 lip on the rims, also works rims is expensive like hell. btw since we on Rims topic, what type of design rims look best on the FDS? 5 Star or Mesh and both have 2 inch lip front and 2 1/2 in the rear? Khris

theres somthing called king pin inclinaton angle (even though our cars dont have king pins). When you have a wheel with a deep backspacing (not deep dish) the suspension geometry is set up so when you turn the wheel, it rotates around the middle of the contact patch. But if you put a wider 'deepd dish' wheels on, it will no longer rotate around its center and make it harder to steer the car. especially when going slow.

Thats why you see a lot of big rig trucks with such a deep offset, so much so that the mounting area of the wheel is actually farther out then the tire!
