wow, I wish I would have remembered this thread. I emailed the place that I bought my Volks SF winnings from to find out the wheel center bore diamter. I wonder if they are all the same for the Volks? NICE thread!

It looks like the Forum gallery disappeared along with the pictures in my original post (DamonB, is it gone or moved?). Assuming that it's gone, does anyone have a recommendation for a good photo hosting site?

rynberg 04-07-05 03:18 AM

Photobucket, works great as long as you don't need to host very high res photos.

Rip 04-07-05 05:31 PM

artowar,

Mackin emailed Audra at Streetsports (where I purchased my wheels) back and stated that the Volk SF winning center bore diameter was 73.1

However, he stated that the hub diameter I should use it 59.5??! Does that seem right?

bolo_fd 04-07-05 07:09 PM

don't want to state the obvious, but why not use a caliper and measure it

Thanks Speedking for the clarification

Well, there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that they are correct about the 59.5mm measurement. Why is this bad? Because of the unique way that the FD's carrier/hub assembly is made, it's just not possible to use a ring for a hub diameter of less than 67.06mm. Basically my friend, you are SOL with this set of wheels. There is no possible way to modify the wheel or hub to allow the use of the wheels on your car.

Now, don't kick yourself for buying a set of wheels that will never, ever, fit on your car. The good news is that I just happen to know a guy, and his sister's fiance's uncle has a car that can probably use this set of wheels. It will be a stretch, but I think that if you pay for shipping and maybe kick in a few extra bucks, he will take them off of your hands. Just to make things easier, you can send the wheels directly to me, and I will make sure that they get to the right person. I would hate to see you without wheels however, so I think that I can scrounge up a set of stock FD wheels that you can have for the cost of shipping. Two are spray painted yellow, and one has a minor crack through a couple of the spokes, but I think that they should balance just fine (with enough weights).

We can work out the details via PMs. Let me know ;)

Thanks rynberg. Unfortunately, I can't find the original pictures. Well, at least they didn't add any substantive information...

Oh crap!!! I can't believe I got such a bad set of wheels! Thanks for all the help. Your right I need to get rid of these right away before something bad happens. Jeesh! I can ship them out to you. Do you take paypal?

hey Art,

on the 1010 website, they do list a 73 59.61 ring but in plastic...

but Discount tire has a measurement of 67.1 for the wheel hub

I don't know what happened. They were uploaded to here and aren't displaying. Has to be a forum issue. If you should locate pics again I can certainly edit that post for you so they display though.

Interesting. I have a set of borbet 5 spokers that i bought with the car (they were pretty nice so i figured why not) and they have copper hub centering rings. I'm not worried about corrosion due to the wheels being painted.

Am i the only ones with copper rings?

What size is the FC hub? Maybe that's what he quoted (at 59.5mm). It would be an easy mistake to make. I am 100% certain that the FD hub is 67.1 mm.

I had copper rings that came with a set of SSR Comps I bought a while back for another car. Shouldn't make any difference what they're made out of.

bolo_fd 04-08-05 10:45 PM

why wouldn't the wheels for 7racer work? both hub diameters, 59.5 and 67.1, are smaller then the wheel center bore, 73.1, so why can't u just get a hub ring? am i off somewhere?

I have the discountiredirect rings and they fit properly with my SE37As and CE28Ns on my FD. Note that the difference between 67.1 and 59.6 is large enough that you can take a regular ruler to your hub to see why the 59.6 measurement is wrong.

But I really think that you should quit wasting your time with these wheels. They will never work on your car, and the sooner that you send them to me, the sooner you will be rid of the headache :)

Art,

your right these wheels have been nothing but trouble for me. When do you want me to ship them out to you??? :D

anyways here are some pics of the plastic volk centering rings and discount tire ones. The finish isn't even on the aluminum ring but for what it's doing I guess it doesn't matter. The discount tire ring however, fits very loosely in the wheel where as with the plastic one I have to "force" it in FWIW.
