Alignment Help -Pettit Specs - Dealership screw up?
 

Help!
I tried to have my alignment done to Pettit street specs. Which are:
Front: Rear:
Toe 1/16 in 0
Camber -1.2 -1.1
Caster +6.0

My computer printout from the dealership says:

Front: Left: Right:

Toe .02 degrees .03 degrees
Camber -1.0 -1.0
Caster +6.5 degrees +6.5 degrees

Rear: Left: Right:

Toe -0.00 degrees -0.01 degrees
Camber -1.1 degrees -1.0 degrees

I have just put on Bridgestone S03's 245/45/16's. Mod's R1 springs and Tokico shocks, RB sways front and rear.

If any of you experienced FD guys knows. Is this an acceptable alignment? I was not able to look at the specs until after I left the dealership. I had to tear ass out of there after waiting for 2.5 hours. They had a hard time according to the service tech.

I really don't know too much about this alignment stuff. Car seems to run and turn fine. I have not had a chance to give it a good workout yet. Any comments are appreciated.:)

They are off a little on the camber but honestly I wouldn't expect better "over the counter". It's tough to find a really good shop that is willing to spend the time to do it Perfect rather than really darn close.

They look okay. You won't notice any difference in driveability. A lot of alignment shops slightly offset the caster as well to make the car ride easier on the streets (notice how most streets have a natural camber to them). It's not critical. Interesting that they were able to get that much caster with 1.0 degrees of negative camber. My car has never been able to do that.

I got 6 degrees of castor with over 1.5 degrees negative up front. Guess some of us are just lucky :o:

The funny thing is the numbers on the printout from before the allignment. They were all out of spec. I guess whenever you make any suspension changes you should have an alignment. The car feels much better than it did.

Why did you go to the dealer for a custom alignment? They will only go by the fatory R1 specs on standard 16" wheels and they have a margin to work with, so numbers won't be exact. You need to find a shop that specializes in sports car alignments.

This Mazda dealer was recomended by Steve Kan. They told me they had no problem doing an alignment to my specs. Steve has taken his race car there and was very satisfied. Perhaps they got it as close as they could. I'm thinking about calling and asking them if that's the case. I wish I had time to ask them when I was there, but I needed to get somewhere. I didn't see the alignment sheet until I was back on the road.
