Affordable wheels in 17X8 or wider?
I'm looking around at affordable wheels that come in a 17X8 size... If you start the list with Enkei on the top (which are still $1000+ a set) and 5Zigen (which are slightly more affordable), I can think of Rota (which are known for being OK, but still liable to break under harsh conditions) or Kosei (which are apparently light and cheap, but not too strong)... can anyone thing of anything else?
I'd like something attractive and less than $700 a set, with an offset of 35 or less. |
$700 a set and not crappy? hard to do. anything you get will probably be brittle or heavy.
these have a rep for bending easy MB Wheels Competitions or Weapons they come in 17x9 +17mm, 27mm roughly 19 lbs per wheel $150ish per wheel, free shipping www.discounttiredirect.com rota grids 16x8 +20mm subydude.com $650ish per set? something like that seriously, best bet is used wheels. check ebay, craigslist, the forums, etc... |
I have MB weapons on my FC. they're pretty light, and they've been great so far. taken a bit of track/off track abuse, and haven't bent or anything. I like em'

Used is your best bet. Try www.rbmotoring.com

Mustang wheels. Seriously. 17x8, 30mm offset, 114.3x5 bolt pattern, and a hu bore larger than the RX-7's. They fit perfectly, they're cheap, they're not too heavy, they're strong, and some of them are pretty good looking. I've got some ~2004 Mustang GT 17x8's on my car and I'm very happy with them. With the money you save on the wheels you can afford better tires for better performance.

rota slipstreams...650 for a set of 17x8.5

i highly suggest getting the 17x9 +24offset mustang cobra R wheels. light strong and fit awesomely (with a bit of work)
or like the guy said up there a set of 99-04 17x8 +30 wheels, or... you can do what i did and get the cobra wheels that are exactly the same, but a little lighter. |
Mmm... RBMotoring has some good rims.
Now, if only I had $700 (plus $400 for tires) to blow on rims. |
You want something light and strong and CHEAP?
Dude, that is just not happening in this reality unless... 1) You're lucky. 2) Get them stolen from someone else. -Ted |
Now, now, I never actually specified that they had to be light, strong, and cheap... that's simply the obvious goal of any wheel, albiet a nearly impossible one (unless they're used, or stolen of course).
To be honest, I just want wheels that'll fit and look good to me... but won't explode into a kajillion peices if I drop a wheel off the road. |
well, I've already tested out the MBweapons, and they are holding up well, and I've dropped a lot of wheels off the track already. lol. if you like the looks, I would def. go for them. they have a lifetime warranty against stuctural problems, and workmanship. and they are actually pretty light. lighter than my dad's 5Zigen GN+'s in 17x8.5.

How about the Supra Turbo wheels? You can run the fronts (17x8) or the rears (17x9 all around!). Just have to have the center bored out a little. Their offset is 50 so it fits in nice under the fenders.
:-) neil |
50mm offset fits nicely on an FD, too bad he's got an FC, those will have a serious territorial dispute with the suspension, hence the request for 35mm offset or less.
|
If I was gonna use rims off another car it would be off the 99-spec FD... those are nice and clean, plus they look a lot like my current rims (which are off a 91 coupe, I think).

I didn't read thru the whole thing but i know that rota has produced some wheels which are affordable and decently light. If you pm me i can cross reference what they have and the weights for you.
