Advice on wheel fitment with RE Amemiya GT-AD fender kit
Whats the widest 18" wheel u can get under there without archwork i say this because i no the rear has the standerd arch on but front is wider by about one inch roughly
Could u put full wheel specs down please and if u have the kit what wheels are u running Also is their a way to calculate it? |
ill check tomorrow but im pretty sure i have 18x9 front with +35 which needs to be like +20 and the rear is 18x10.5 +18 with a 295/30 18 i did cut the wheel arch in the back so that the fiberglass rear quarter are the limiting factors. car is in construction phase still.

Thanks m8

Mine are only 17s but on mine 9' on front and 10' on back +16 offset
|
how much over are they each side?
|
Either way you are going to need to cut the rear fender when molding the new ones on.

I have 9,5 18 +15 up front with 255 35 18.
and 10,5 18 +18 with 285 30 18 in the rear.. perfect fitment... |

Icut mine at 10 and 2 oclock positions. I then took and bent the arch lip 180 deg. opp. the way it was facing orginally with vise grips. I took a hammer to roll the lip tighter in the un cut portions.
Edit: added a pic, only one i had on my phone. this is early on when i first bent the lip outwards. i then came back and stretched the metal above the bend with the pen end of the hammer. |

hey im back and have the funds to get the wheels i would like i have been doing lots of research and found an online calculator to get a rough guide to get the best offset to fit car
i used this 1010TIRES.COM - Wheel Offset Calculator and took measurements from stock wheels to the arch tip to get best offset even with the kit i found 18x9.5 +45 in Front = 24mm wider this ok fit but +38 would fill the arches may need to trim kit a bit 18x10 +38 in Rear= 3.7mm wider, if i go 10.5 +15 it seems to be to wide sticking out and i dont want to hit the arch on a heavy bump let me no what you think thanks |

if you're putting on rear over fenders, and you go with 18x10 +38 you're doing it wrong.
here's an 18x10 +20 on stock metal: http://mduece.files.wordpress.com/20...d4f70409_b.jpg here's 18x12 +30 with the re-a overs: https://i300.photobucket.com/albums/...ther/123_4.jpg Attachment 670919 Attachment 670920 that would be equivilant to 18x10 +5 or 18x10.5 +11 what size tires will you be running? |
hey m8 thanks for reply and pics
my plan was to run 255/35 on 9.5 rim on front with the +45 offset and 285/30 on 10 rim rear +38 i measured the wheel and it seems to me now that i can go wider my only other option is to get the rear wider to 10.5 +15 but when measuring this seemed to wide to clear the re fender have you any pics of a 10.5 +15 rim on a car ? i do not want clearance to be an issue on corners what would you recommend for rpf1 on 18" rim this is their size chart http://www.enkei.com/size_chart/RPF1.pdf thanks |
That pic of my car is 18x 10.5 +18 with a 295/30 18 I run the same rim on the front with a 255 tire

so in theory the 10.5 +15 on rear and 10 +38 on front will clear no problems ?
|
Wow had no idea FDs can handle such low offsets with stock fenders.

ride height camber tire size tire brand and your ability to "fit" wheels. that blue FD i posted is running 18x10+36 up front and 18x10+20 in the rear on stock fenders. I believe he probably rolled the rears (folded the lip in), and he's running, (if i remember correctly, it's been a while) advan ad08 255/35/18 all the way around. the short answer to your question is, yes you should be able to fit those wheels. i certainly plan to go at least that big. |

You can fit a wide wheel even with a low offset on stock fenders, but you won't be able to fit a wide tire. Offset determines how a wide a tire you can fit as it is offset that centers the wheel/tire between the suspension and the fender. +45 offset seems to be the magic number on stock fenders. For instance, I am running 18x11 +45 295/30-18 F/R on stock fenders (front lip rolled under), so with +30mm fenders I could run the same 18x11 now at +15, but would be be limited to the same 295 width tire (or it would hit the outside of the fender). Or I could widen the wheel back out so the inside lip is in the same place as with the 18x11 +45 offset and be able to run a wider tire. 18x12 +30 with 315/30-18 F/R on +30mm wide fenders. |

I'm just about to start shopping for wheels for my 93 FD. Love the blue car, and just hoping to clarify your comments about it. (plus, what wheels are those?) Thank you! |

those wheels are weds sa60m |
Just to keep everyone grounded in this conversation.
A wider tire gives you better lateral grip, but it is at the cost of straight line grip. a skinnier tire will have more longitudinal grip but sacrifice lateral grip. The force on the wheels exerted by the car is the same, so there are only two functions we can manipulate to increase grip. tire pressure, and chemical adhesion (tire choice). you can obviously run lower pressures on smaller diameter wheels for better straight line grip. So those running 18" wheels with really wide tires is actually sacrificing straight line grip. Just wanted to make sure people know that. |
