ABS Removal

First question is, why in the world would you want to remove your ABS? (I do need this answer to determine how to approach this, but I'm also a bit incredulous).

You can simply disable ABS by removing the fuse or fusible link for the system. This is a good way to see what the car is like without it. Do this, and drive around, CAREFULLY, giving yourself LOTS of room between cars, and you'll see how much difference it makes. Try one semi-panic stop, and you'll see how much ABS prevents driver error causing a slide.

Yeah, you searched...
There was a thread about it a month ago. Don't know how you missed it. There was probably another one 2 months ago also.

Many are curious as to why you want to remove the ABS.

Having autox'd both my FD and non-ABS Miata, I have no intention of removing the ABS. If that car gets tracked, it's even a better idea to leave it.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to remove your ABS. On cars as old as ours, the ABS system doesn't even help you brake faster (dependent on driver), nor is is "safer" (again, dependent on driver).

If your driving gets you into a situation where you need to rely on your ABS to save your ass, maybe you should rethink your driving habits in the first place. People give ABS way more credit than it is due.

like what healing said, all abs is meant to do is reduce the chance of a SERIOUS collision, doesnt mean its going to stop that collision from happening.
just, make sure not to tail anyone, and be careful around minivan toting soccer moms, or worse yet, fuckin prius owners. those motherfuckers cant drive! (i worked for prius, wished i could blow every last one up)

My rear left ABS sensor went bad time ago. I removed the main ABS fuse and run without ABS. Wheels were still locking all over the place.

I haven't researched this further but I think it's possible brake system relies on ABS for proper force distribution rather than hydraulic bias/valve component.
