Ok ive got a 93 RX7 that im doing a 1JZ swap and that means dropping the cross member 2in. i want the low look without having to worry about anything hitting the engine.i found some 20in chrome rims and put them on and i think it looks good....what do you guys think?

Supernaut 09-26-11 01:42 PM

I think this is in the wrong section and I want to vomit. Besides that, hahahah well done. This looks almost as bad as when I had ninja wheels.

sc_frontier 09-26-11 01:55 PM

I think if that is your style then no one can stop you. Rims are a very individual choice. Not my style but I've seen worse imho.

limepro 09-26-11 01:57 PM

Kill it with fire.

kevin t2 09-26-11 02:05 PM

well thanks Supernaut for not being helpful at all,But what im trying to ask is if anyone has 20in rims on there FD and if there are any problems..i cant drive mine yet because im waiting on my new turbo to come in,and BTW im not keeping these rims because im not a big fan of chrome,so ill be going with some 20in work wheels

At least you will be able to do an oil change without a jack, looks like a subaru.

mannykiller 09-26-11 02:20 PM

so you want 20's because it looks cool? P.s do you have any idea how much 20" works will cost?

justincredble 09-26-11 02:27 PM

looks like a camaro.

kevin t2 09-26-11 02:29 PM

lol not because its cool..i could careless what looks cool.Im doing 20s because i have a 1jz Toyota engine in the FD and i still want the low look but the 1jz sets lower then the 13b by 2in..So bigger rims will help the car look lower without having the engine too close to the ground.

kevin t2 09-26-11 02:30 PM

and yes i know how much work wheels in 20s and its not a big deal.

kevin t2 09-26-11 02:33 PM

justincredble what about it looks like a camaro?Post a pic of your car if mine looks so bad lol

Davin 09-26-11 02:35 PM

It is going to handle like crap with those big, clunky wheels.

tabuk1! 09-26-11 02:47 PM

why stop at 20s ? chop away the fenders and maybe you could fit a 22 or 23

kevin t2 09-26-11 02:48 PM

its funny how many people talk about things they know nothing about.1st people say don't put a 1JZ in it because it will mess up the 50/50 and now big wheels will handle bad lol..You guys are missing the point!I don't want my FD to be the same old shit that everyone else has(street port, power FC,exhaust) and then having to rebuild every 40k miles. And as for the wheels,i mean its not going to be a track car and driving to work and around on the weekend 80mph and below i don't think it will make a difference!

sc_frontier 09-26-11 03:01 PM

If you have the money just build it the way you want. The only opinion that matters is your own.

calculon i guess you don't understand what im saying...I don't build my cars based on what other people do.I myself like how the FD looks when its lowered

So no track, not goin over 80mph, & dont wanna deal w/ rebuilding a rotary? To me it sounds like you should just buy a lexus and call it a day. 20's will fit no problem & no need for an exhaust.

NoPis10 09-26-11 05:45 PM

Lets see.....

You say you don't care what other people think but then ask for opinions ??

You went 2J because you don't want to rebuild every 40K miles and people don't know what they are talking about ??

Well Sir..... It seems you have just contradicted yourself.....

You are ASSUMING you need to rebuild a Rotary every 40K miles so you SIR don't know what YOUR talking about.... I have had 5 Rotary cars and have yet to "Blow" a motor on any of them..and I track my Rotary every 2 weeks at the local track..... It is ALL in the way you BUILD and TUNE the car that matters NOT that it's a Rotary...

I know someone who said the same BS you just said and went ahead with his 2J install on a 87 Supra....Guess what.......It blew up just 2 weeks after install and spending 5K on a build because the builder didn't do the right job.....

So in closing..... KNOW what YOUR talking about...

P.S...

20's on an FD look out of place... Look into 19's instead...

I think Jesus just went back in time and punched baby jesus for thinking 20's on an FD were cool

ok lwnslw,so 19s but not 20s?lol that's a joke! And as for 13b,i love the rotary!I use to have a 89 T2 and ran it hard almost everyday and never had a problem BUT you have to put up with alot of shit with the 13b..Hard to find parts, low torque and worry about detonation and spitting out a apex seal..Look,think whatever you want but 2jz and 1jz is a far better engine. If you look at my pic,i have a Lexus SC300 2JZ NA-T and with just a TT headgasket,APR head studs,FFIM,550cc injectors and 255 fuel pump it kicked out 514hp and 489tq @19psi...Let me see a 13b do that for under 3k!And it has 180k miles..

cptpain 09-27-11 01:33 AM

No engine is better than the other, thats the truth.

Its really all a matter of preference, the build quality, and the tune. Period.

Do what you want, no one is stopping you.

The FD's fenders are not big enough like newer cars to look decent with 20's, 18's is the ideal rims size.

plus with such a low profile tire size you're sacrificing ride quality as it is since you have no cushion against road imperfections and run the risk of bending or cracking a rim should you hit a pot hole or similar large object with such a low cushion of air.

I have an 06 Armada SE, for the last 4 years its been riding on stock everything and was a VERY comfortable ride with the high profile tires..... i decided to spruce it up a bit with some 22's but maintaining the stock tire height, so that meant low-pro tires.... good lord was that a mistake, the ride was so stiff and jarring over every road imperfection, and the road noise is VERY apparent now that i have to actually have the stereo turned up a little bit more.
I drove it like this for 3 months before i returned the wheels and tires for a full refund minus $100 for the mileage on the tires.

Even if you were to lower the FD on 20's you'd still have 4x4 height
