18x8 vs. 18x9 Front
 

Well my Volk GTN wait has progressed because seemingly Mackin doesn't want to give me 18x9's for the front or something like that..

Anyway, regardless of the above, should I really care that I'll be getting 18x8 rather than 18x9 for the fronts? My rears will be 18x10 with 275's and either way I was going to put 235's up front. I'm not planning on doing any real track use and I suppose I had a few incidents with my 93' mr2's that have made me a be sensitive to over(here we go again) steer.

Would you care? Reportedly 18x8 is Volks recommendation for the fronts...

I think the 8" F's & 9" R's are because they assume stock suspension (not 2.5" coil over) and the prefered widetrack or low offset that the Japanese like...and rolled fenders. This is my current setup.

I had taller and much wider rears (215/275), similar to what you want to do and it sucked compared to 225/255. You will sacrifice some balance for wider rear rubber.

If you can't get custom offsets and sizes, go with another brand. You can get Work Meister S1's 17x9-F/R in 50mm offsets (255/40-17 F/R).

235/265 with 8.5" & 9.5" or 245/275 with 9" & 10" but your wheel diameter will be 1/2" taller. 255's will tuck in perfectly without any fender rolling usually needed when lowered and is the same diameter as stock.

The rears will remain constant at 18x10's with 275's..

ok, well for 235's i'd rather have 8" then 9".

Even on your 17x10 with 275's your rim will protrude and be susceptible to curb damage. I would do 255-F & 275-R with 9" & 10" but you would need custom offsets.

This proabably won't matter but, what offsets are you getting? Front and rear. Mackin has never complained about our Special fitments for the FD cause we approve them and they are proven.

Maybe this will help:

Tire RIM Width Dia'
235/45ZR17 7.5-8.0-9.0 25.4
275/40ZR17 9-9.5-10.5 25.5

As you can see 8" & 9.5" width's are in the mid range or recomended width's (If you go by 85% tire to rim width).

At 90% ratio, you would go with 8.5" F & 10" R. Basically, you will notice the rim stick out more in the front then the rear if you go with 9" front rim.

...So it depends if you like that look and if you are not worried about scraping curbs when you park. Otherwise, stick with 8" in front. :D
