With a red car, just about any wheel color works as long as it's nothing crazy like neon green for florescent yellow. As for size, IMO it depends on the wheel. Some wheels look good in 17's, others look good in 18's. I generally prefer 17's for the FD, however decent tires are getting harder to get in good widths within 17's. 18 is now the new 17 so there are a lot more tire options with 18's.

I would shy away from 19's. The tire sidewall will be very tiny with a 19" wheel and your ride quality will suffer. I don't know what roads look like in Boston, but I imagine they aren't always too smooth. ;)

I'm with Mahjik on this one. 18 gives you the most wheel and tire options. I have a friend with 19s on his FD, and he's constantly complaining and wanting to switch to 18s.

If I were buying wheels today, I'd look at something like the 5zigen Pro Racer ZR:

http://www.racinglab.com/5zigen-zr52...ls-bronze.html

or the Gullflame Gravity wheels:

http://www.phantasmusa.com/gullflamegun.html

Those are some aggressive offsets, but they can work on a FD. Neither are very common wheels on the FD so you won't look like "just another FD3S". But they are decent quality wheels.

18s and in Bronze...

i think i just fell for the 5zigen-zr520 thanks mahjik...... but i cant find it in 18x10 i just found 18x9.5 wich i want for the front.

Mahjik 12-15-10 01:58 PM

Is that half of an inch going to make or break your car?

revhardallday 12-15-10 02:05 PM

your right so should i go 17 or 18?

If you are going for the 5zigen, the 18's would give a more aggressive look with 18x8.5 +32 in the front, and 18x9.5 +37 in the rear. You will have to roll your front fenders, but it should look nice once you are setup.

revhardallday 12-15-10 02:55 PM

sounds good, i just got the car painted will rolling the fendes cause any damage to paint or body? how do i go about doing that anyways? also sorry for being a pain but what size tires i like the large wide look in the back. thanks.

Mahjik 12-15-10 08:40 PM

I'd probably do:

235/40/18
255/35/18

with those sizes and offsets which you can get in the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs.

Zhé 12-15-10 11:53 PM

my personal opinion:
silver rims to have a plain, non stand out, subtle look.
bronze to have a sporty, souped up look.
black, or black with red lip to have a aggressive look.
of course the design pattern of the rim will play a big factor on the looks, as well as your other exterior mods.

revhardallday 12-16-10 12:41 PM

255 is that the widest i can go on the back?

No. You could put 275's on those wheels.

revhardallday 12-16-10 01:57 PM

oh ok that sounds good.

are those wheels really concave looking i cant find a side view of them.

Mahjik 12-16-10 07:17 PM

You may run into issues depending on how low you make your car with rubbing in the rear which is why I would suggest 255. Keep in mind it's the wheel which makes the wide look, not necessarily the tire itself. i.e. a smaller tire is still going to look 9.5", there will just be a little taper to the sidewall for the stretch (which will help avoid rubbing).

Rollogic 12-16-10 07:56 PM

19" too big. 18" I think is just right, especially if it has a lip.

agree, def with 18's cheaper tires too

purerx7 12-18-10 04:16 PM

The 18 v 19 debate has been argued 100 times on year. I have had several sets of wheels in both sizes. You can only pull off 19" wheels on a fd if they are either step lip or 3pc/rivets as that makes the wheel appear to be smaller, it is hard to pull off a 19" full face wheel. My 19s ride just as fine as 18s, never had an issue. If you go to the track then I would suggest much smaller wheels.
