16? 17? 18?

I am looking for wheels for my widebody FC road race car. I am interested in hearing the pros, and cons for 16,17, and 18" wheels on the car. So far 16s are probably out due to limited tire availability in sizes that are wide enough. I can accomadate a 10" rim in the front, and a 12" wheel in the rear. I will probably use both DOT tires, and Grand Am takeoff slicks. Thanks, Carl THE procrastinator Byck

You'll probably want more than one set: and 18" set for the road, with a high degree of pimp factor, and a 17" set for the track (12" wheels will accomodate 315/35/17 tires... i supose it wil depend on the tire you want to use, as to which diameter rim to go with). Either way, for 12" widths, you're looking at modular wheels, so check out Fikse and Kinesis.

Oh Carl,

I ordered some two peice work wheels from Japan for a kick ass price. I would go 18's cause you have better tire selection IMO.

I ordered 18,10 and 18,11.5 I have an extra set coming so if you're interested let me know. I'm talking around $1600.00 for these wheels.

They are the Termist S1C wheels. Phat five spoke. Look like the SSR professor.

I would say it's more about how much you're willing to pay for. I dunno about slicks, but the price bump is pretty significant from 17" to 18" tires. For some wheels, the price difference is also significant. What's your wallet say? ;)

I am tending towards the 17s, plenty of Grand Am cars are still running 17s(take offs). Rishie, I am interested in 17x10 5" backspace, and 17x12 6" backspace Any pics, available 17s? Weight? I am ready to go on this. Also what lead time? As I said before my budget is 2K. I am now looking at BBS Racing 3 piece from Bob Woodman. He said 2200, I don't love the looks(mesh as in Daytona prototype), but I think they are very light(waiting on actual weights). Rishie, why don't you call me, I am serious and ready to buy. I've called you a couple times, but no call back... Chris Roth said you can work the deals, so let's go... Did you ever check that Braid website? Also still waiting for a quote on specially valved JICs(800/550 +/-) LMK 707-696-2705

17s for you, Carl...good luck!

i thought the only reason for bigger diameter wheels for race applications was to fit bigger rotors where smaller diameter wheels would not fit over.
