[FC] Corksport 30mm fenders + 285's = win
I'm sure all of you were wondering "whats the biggest tire i can stuff under the front of my FC, without using those godaweful 60mm tripoint flares?"
the answer - Corksport 30mm fenders. Unlike most fenders for the FC, CS fenders give an honest 30mm, maybe more (i didnt actually measure). Tein Flex coilovers, 2.5 degrees camber Drivers side: 18x9.5 +15 Enkei RPF1 285/30/18 Kumho V710 Passenger side: 17x9 +24 Bullitts 255/40/17 Advan A032-R the last v710 pic is with the tire compressed some (rolled up onto a curb). as you can see it tucks just fine. The tire will actually hit the frame rail before the fender. perfect fit! http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02845.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02842.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02844.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02841.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02846.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02847.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02849.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02850.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02851.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02852.jpg |
btw- i definately recommend the CS fenders. they fit really well (mounted them myself with a little dremeling and a hand drill).
for you drifty types, you could run crazy low offsets on these. 285 with +15 offset equates to -10 with a 235. |
rpf1's = teh hottness
|
YAY! THAT is an auto-x setup. Looks fantastic! Really been kicking around going 18" since the overall tire heights are so much better. Damn that thing looks good.
|
you're in ssm dude- do it!
so based on my experiance, i think the best 'budget' setup would be to run 18x10 +22 mustang wheels all around, with a 7mm-10mm spacer up front, and 285's all around. the rears will fit a lot easier with the +22 in back. only a slight pull needed, assuming non-retarted ride height and proper camber. |
Oh snap! Now that's rubber! I just wished those fenders didn't have the vent!

So an honest 30mm is all that is needed for 285s in the front? Awesome!!! Hey Josh, where in portland I would really like to check your car out.
|
It'll be best to put some mesh over the opening to keep the rocks and junk from flying out of the fender and hitting the car. Nicely done though, I never would have thought that combo would work.
|
For a FG Fender that thing fits real nice. I've seen virtually every brand cheap and epensive available stateside and i'm very impressed with the seams and subtlety of the flare. And being CS fenders they must be darn affordable. Hats off!!!!
I'd be interested in seeing a street radial 285/30/18 would fit with that setup. i'm running 245's on my stock front fenders and the thing turns on a dime but is twitchy for daily driving, imo. I can't imagin 285's. do tell...... Rishie |
This is a great post. Thanks!
I'm using genuine 30mm D1 DMax fenders, and was planning to run the 17x9 mustang wheels and 275/40R17's on the front. By the look of your fitment, you could go even bigger again.... 315 up front? |
275/40/17 is a taller tire, and thats really where the problems lie. you can go plenty wide, but larger diameter tires interfere with everything. 275's will most likely hit the back of the fender, maybe the front, and will probably rub on the inside of the fender well.
285/30/18 is the same diameter as 255/40/17, which just clears the insides and the back edge of the fender. i know some guys have run 275's in front, but i've only seen it on mariah or tripoint 'big' fenders, which give you extra room down on the bottom for the tire to turn. they may have also pounded out the fender well. dunno |
If you run more postive castor, this gives you more clearance for the back of the guard.
I originally had some MSport 25mm copies, and they suffered the guard clearance at the back of the wheels, and this was evident even before i put tires onto some 18x9.5+7 wheels i had for fitment back then. Although this was when the 'drift fitment is cool' fad was happening, and the wheels came up cheap. I had plenty of room at the front of the guard. http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/8...0148eq6.th.jpghttp://img88.imageshack.us/img88/167/dsc00157sa1.th.jpghttp://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3...0160bh7.th.jpg I'll be using the same guards as this guy (his running 255/40R17's all round) https://i204.photobucket.com/albums/...j/IMG_0500.jpghttps://i204.photobucket.com/albums/...j/IMG_0505.jpg |
a) how do i get more caster? I have tein flex's and caster sure isnt adjustable up top.
b) what rear overs are those? did you measure how much legitamate clearance is gained? fitment? |
You can get more caster by "ovaling" out the upper strut mounts.
I second moving to 18's for tire widths larger than 255. 275's for 17's are just way too tall. The gearing penalties accrued outweigh the benefits of more traction. |

b) what rear overs are those? did you measure how much legitamate clearance is gained? fitment? a) castor - with the camber tops, spin them 90 degrees, and this will give you castor adjustment (use camber bolts to get camber) OR use an offset bush for the rear of the front lower control arm. Effectively moving the rear mount outwards. Increasing castor. I'm using the latter method, using locally available bushes (www.whiteline.com.au or www.fulcrumsuspension.com.au) b) rear fenders are 30mm DMax fenders, measured at 30mm. I pulled the rear fenders, and then placed them over the top, and the pull alone was easily 30+mm Might have to slightly trim some of the fibreglass, but measuring from the stock wheel face, to the edge of the guard with a plumpbob i have 75mm extra room for a larger rim. Going for 315/35R17 in the rear. http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/4...0142az3.th.jpghttp://img174.imageshack.us/img174/7...0141bm0.th.jpg The picture i have before of the rear with a wheel fitted was with a 18x10.5+7. |
i had my springs out today, so i thought i'd take more pics.
i jacked the tire up into the wheel well to see how much travel i really had. the corner of the tire is just barely touching the fender (i think). kinda hard to tell. should have passed a string over it or something... http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02857.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02853.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02854.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...C/DSC02855.jpg |
that is one really tight fit. I gotta know how an fc drives with 285's all the way around!
|
unholy traction lol
when the v710's get hot its unreal |
do you have any pictures of the 285's on the rears with your pulled fenders?
what are the chances of the tire hitting under full suspension load? |
Glad you tried this... you may well have found my eventual national setup. I can't believe how well that fits.

not sure on offset, his using +30mm front fenders, and the rears were pumped.
i'm fairly sure looking at them, they are skyline GTR offset, which will be around +15, and for clearance to the strut you may need a spacer. |
those are DMax front fenders. you sure those are 285s? didnt think they offered that much clearance...
|
they sure are, the same ones i'm using, and i've got 275's on the front of mine, and still have clearance.
|
OMG those 285/30-18 V710 or A6 are expensive.
You could get the FC really low and have full suspension travel with the 275/35-15 A6 all around with those fenders... would be cheaper and lighter :D |
lol who buys new tires? you can get corvette sized 710s for dealz. i paid ~300 total for the current set on my car, in near new condition (qualifying take offs)
but yah, if i had less power, i definately would have opted for the 15's. couldnt put the power down with 285s tho, so ehh |
Hey Josh. I just got some corksport Fenders. Can you get the pics back up?
Thanks! |

I'd just like to see the pics. My shine Fenders are kinda beat up.I'm thinking of running 285s on some 18s next

so based on my experiance, i think the best 'budget' setup would be to run 18x10 +22 mustang wheels all around, with a 7mm-10mm spacer up front, and 285's all around. the rears will fit a lot easier with the +22 in back. only a slight pull needed, assuming non-retarted ride height and proper camber. Thanks Bret |

Josh or anyone. Do you think a 18x9 +28 combo with the 285s would fit equally as well as the 18x10 +22 setup? I have a mild pull in the rear and the corksport fenders for the front.
Thanks Bret You may need more of a pull in the rear to get the 10 inch wheel to work. You will need spacers in the back with the 9 inch wheel, and may have to live with a little tire rub on the rear trailing arm to keep the tires off the fenders. Food for thought. - I went from 275/35/17 on 9.5 inch wheels, to the same tire on 10.5 inch wheels with about identical effective offsets and rub less.. simply because the tire moves around on the rim less. You may have to make some other changes to get it to work, Drop me a line and I can tell you what I did. The good news is that with those fenders you have a little extra wiggle room. I think your biggest challenge is going to be keeping the tire off the front coilover. Josh had custom front struts and built extra clearance into them. |
Thanks for the reply I didn't end buying those. I'll hold out for a bit more and get the right wheel first...
I did find these as another option 18x10.5 +22. What do you think? https://www.unleashedwheels.com/esr-sr06.html |

I did find these as another option 18x10.5 +22. What do you think? https://www.unleashedwheels.com/esr-sr06.html The back is gonna be a tight squeeze. It will be down to how wide your tires really are, and how much you have pulled the fenders. I run the same wheel in back with no spacer at all.. and the fit is perfect. The tire just touches the inner and outer fender wells enough to shine the shoulder of the tire at full rear compression. So you’ll be 5 mm outboard. But I would wager your 285s are not as wide as the 275 race tires. |
