*Spy Shot: Kumho V710 R-compounds*
Our local autox club recently had a Kumho sponsored event/banquet. Their engineers brought along a prototype Victoracer V710 r-compound tire to tease us with. Not sure when it'll be out but it's a direct competition against the Hoosier A3S03/4. Lighter and grippier with only grooves to make it legit (even A3S03 had holographic treads).
Here are some pix *large pix warning*: http://www.vcmc.ca/multimedia/ksc/banquet/DSC01483.html http://www.vcmc.ca/multimedia/ksc/banquet/DSC01485.html http://www.vcmc.ca/multimedia/ksc/banquet/DSC01486.html http://www.vcmc.ca/multimedia/ksc/banquet/DSC01490.html |
when r they available?
|
read the post -- "Not sure when it'll be out..."
Thanks for the pics, they look interesting to say the least! |
sorry, I am kinda of excited about it
|
That tire in the foreground looks interesting, but damnit the one in the background is clearly too narrow to mount on even the stock FD rims! ;)

If I was there I would have been certain that about four of them fell off the truck :)
Very interesting. |
Me Likes. Think they'll make a road race version so I don't melt the autocross version after three laps LOL ;)
|
tread? we don't need no stinking tread!
|
Are they targetting the Hoosier for price too, or will they stay cheaper? Any idea?
|
I confess...I missed out on the banquet so I didn't get any marketing/technical info. I'll ask my friends who attended to see if they can release any more info.
I seem to recall that someone mentioned these will be nylon cords also (like Hoosiers) to save weight. Not sure if they are designed for autox or track or both. Again, since we're now sponsored by Kumho they decided to sneak in sumpin just for us. |
Any idea on cost? The pics look like a size 255/40-17?? Just my size. I'd be happy to test a free set @ Putnam Park Road Course Hee Hee LOL :) I pride myself in my ability to turn consistent laptimes (within 0.1 seconds per lap)... :)
|
looks like 275/40/R17. Any word if they're making 18's too?
I really hope so- right now Hoosier is the only one that makes the same tire for front/rear for the C5. Kumho requires that you mix the VR and the Ecsta.... |
The thumb nail marks in the tires are the tread :D Just say they'll make a 335-30-17, Carl
|
Carl, what no 18's? I know you want the 13" rotors up front.:)
|
I've found my brakes to be fine with Carbotech XPs, and proper ducting for hauling the car down from 130-50 at T'Hill. Plus 335-30-18s cost 330.00+, compared to 335-30-17s @~175.00. It's a no brainer, plus if I opt for the BBS Magnesium 3 piece wheels, I'd like a little more sidewall to protect those babies :D
|
Seems like you've put some thought into it though.
Hey, again sorry about Saturday. I'll get up there soon.:) Can't wait to see your car!!!! |
335-30-17?!? Not too shabby. That works out to be a miniscule shade taller than 205-55-16. Wow! That's some footprint.
