Wiring the Apexi S-AFC (I)

I discovered that the blue wire will give a correct pressure signal.

Here is the peak-hold screen after a test run. My Lo-idle correction is -10% to compensate for the FD pump.
.85 Kg/cm2 X 14.2 = 12 PSI. (The MBC was still set a little too high.)

Some SAFC wiring pictures

The black & brown ground wires.

The gray TPS wire.

The red power wire.

The yellow & white AFM wires cut in.

The green RPM wire

The blue wire attached to pin "2H" to read the pressure sensor. It works!

Hmm thanks Bill, im gonig to research and see how to do it on s4 adn SAFC2.

rekx 01-14-05 05:12 PM

now for type do you put in tps or pressure

NZConvertible 01-14-05 06:10 PM

There is no selection for "TPS or pressure", you select flap AFM like you're supposed to. The MAP sensor signal is simply replacing the TPS signal.

Don't NAs have a pressure sensor too? could this be done with an s4 NA instead of the narrow range tps? And how does this work? full manifold pressure equals wide open throtle? is that true?

Just about all EFI cars have a MAP sensor, including NA FC's.

Yes.

And how does this work?
The MAP sensor sends a voltage-vs-load signal similar to what a full-range TPS would.

Correct.

totallimmortal 01-18-05 10:21 AM

thanks NZ, so from what i gather this would be better than the narrow range tps, should i wire mine like this?

NZConvertible 01-19-05 03:54 AM

Yes.

Kick ass, I'll have to save this for later. I've been thinking about messing with a S-AFC in my GXL, but don't know if it's relaly going overboard for a car that really hasn't had any major performance modifications completed.

I'm pretty sure you guys are misunderstanding what he did. he is still using the TPS as your are surposed too.

he hooked up the pressure wire as well (normaly left unconnected) this simply shows the reading on the screen and alows you to record the max pressure. it has no effect on adjustment.

I have since made a minor change.
The gray wire for the S-AFC's THR signal is tapped off the pressure sensor.
The blue wire for the S-AFC's PRS signal is tapped to the same signal, but after the FCD.

Now I can verify the clipping point of the FCD.
It makes a cool graph.

im goin to do this to my s4 but whats FCD cause like everyone knows s4 have a small tps range... thanks
