wideband input into SAFC?
 
right now i have an SAFCII with the stock S5 ECU (non-turbo).

i'm looking to get a wideband oxygen sensor shortly, and i was looking at the Innovate LC-1. the only thing is that i'm not quite sure how i'm going to log RPM. i have a laptop so i can log AFR, but it doesn't seem to have anything to log RPM.

is there anyway for the SAFCII to take the 0-5V input from the LC-1?

i have TPS, AFM, and RPM being read right now...i know there is at least one extra input i am not using on the SAFCII, i believe it is for another airflow sensor.

if the SAFC could take in the voltage reading then you could use the SAFC's replay feature to datalog the Voltage VS. RPM or TPS and tune accordingly. it might not be perfect but can give a rough tune.

I can't remember but I think if you hook the o2 up to one of the spare logging wires, maybe such as for the knock sensor or something else that monitors volts. You could monitor your AFR that way. You just need to know what AFR is at what specific volt.

I can't see why it wouldnt work. Unless im missing something. Been a long time since I have played with an afc

You could do it, but it won't log it - you'll just have the voltage show up in the Sensor Check mode. It's better to have a decent AFR gauge to reference.

yeah i do have an AFR gauge, but i want to be able to do a rough tune, and see what my AFR is VS. RPM and/or TPS is.

anyways, i think i will be going with a Techedge wbo2 instead of the innovate unit since it can log RPM, TPS, etc.

You might consider the Zeitronix unit for a wideband. You can buy the Zeitronix and use a Palm to read the output and data log from the Zeitronix. Read about the Zeitronix and the collaboration with Pocketlogger.com at this site: http://pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=home

This is coming from someone who owns two Techedge and has had them for several years (satifiyed customer). But I can see where owning a Zeitronix would be an improvement. I also have a RTEK2.0 that does data logging.

If the RTEK2.0 had been available when I was shopping years ago, I'd have bought it and never bought a SAFC (own two) and never bought the Techedge(own two). I'd have bought the RTEK2.0 and the Zeitronix.

Hardly anybody reads this SAFC forum and I recommend the RTEK2.0 not have its sepreate forum because it'll gather cobwebs like this safc forum.

thanks for the reply man. yup, i realize now this forum gets no attention, heh.

unfortunately i don't have a palm, but it is interesting that you can do that with the Zeitronix.

i have no use for an RTEK at this point, i am running a stockport S5 non-turbo engine right now, and i just need fuel correction. in fact the SAFCII i won't be using for long. i'm currently waiting for the Megasquirt-II to support full rotary injection and ignition. right now this is only possible with the MS-I. i might be looking into developing some of the code myself.

in the mean time though i want to be able to tune the car with a wideband, since i know at this point the stock maps are a decent bit off. i didn't realize originally that the innovate LC-1 could not log RPM, TPS, etc...

I'm actually trying to do this in reverse.

I have an LM-1 and an S-AFC 2 on a turbo2 s5, and I want to run aux inputs to the LM1 from the s-afc so I can log RPM, AFR, Throttle, and correction.
And then run 1 aux output back to the stock ECU to simulate a stock lamda signal so I only need to run the wideband o2 at all times.

that shouldn't be too hard...i'm not quite sure if the LM-1 needs an additional add-on aux input unit, but i do know people put things other than RPM into it for logging.

yeah i think i am just going to order a techedge DIY kit. it will give me practice anyways for Megasquirt assembly, plus it will allow me to log whatever else i need other than just lambda.

Referring to the original question:
The blue wire will interpret a pressure signal and display as PRS in Kg/cm2 on the S-AFC.

Hooking the LM1's output to the blue wire on the S-afc would show values for the 0-5v range.
It would show as pressure, but a conversion factor should be easy to calculate by starting with the value you get in closed loop = 14.7

i was contemplating that you could use a wideband and effectively have an always on fuel compute to tune. The map sensor is often hooked up as a throttle sensor that reads 0-5v. depending on the output of that sensor on the 0-5v range the high or low map is considered. If you were to make the volt for below stoich run a leaner map it would then run that map until the afr got too lean and it would then make it rich for the > than percentage you set for the high map.

SAR's idea is interesting.
With the throttle points set at 0 & 99. it would interpolate all the values in between.

The only downside is you only have one map with the hi map leaning and the low map adding fuel to balance at your selected tune.
