Whats the Difference between the S-afc's

What is the difference between the s-afc and the s-afc II

Besides the price differences, what features do each of these hold?

Does the II have additional features, going to be picking a s-afc up very soon and am trying to make the decision.

Get an Safc-II or the newest Safc-II version in think its called the "super" Safc-II

The original SAFC.. is a box with some knobs on it, its pretty limited and not worth whatever you would pay for it anymore.

The later models are programable, have more adjustment points and some other cool features, and supposedly, the ability to let you're blow off valve vent to atmosphere without a crappy idle and stalling after blow off.. (I never tried using that function so i don't know how well it works)

lol... you're kidding?!?! how does it do that?

What do you mean, I didn't know the SAFC could do that...I didnt think a BOV messed ur idle up as long as you hooked it up right, etc.

The original "AFC" was called the "AFC".
The AFC II was shortly released.
These units were model specific and had one knob or no adjustment.

The "Super AFC" was released as a general application unit, and this is the 5 knob version.

The "S-AFC" was the first unit to use the blue flourescent screen.

The current version is the "S-AFC II".

Sorry, I dunno the difference between the S-AFC and the S-AFC II. :(

I think the difference between the SAFC and the SAFC-II is, you can have two different air-flow correction settings...like if you tuned it for 550cc's, and then you bought some 720cc's, you could tune it again, and save data for both, so if u wanted to go back to 550's for some reason, the data would be there.

The Super SAFCII will let you adjust down to as low a 800 rpm while the model previous to that one, the Super SAFC will only let you adjust as low as 1000 rpm. The Super SAFCII also has more set points than the previous model.

That said, the fuel mixture at idle (approx 750 rpm) WILL be effected by adjusting the 1000rpm point on the SUPER SAFC

I don't really care for either in one respect. That is the GLARE off the clear cover over the display makes the readings UNREADABLE when looking at the display from an angle. Also I have no use what's so ever for the chrome looking surround. It's gaudy. In another time/era I could tell you just what I really think about the display feature......but I'd be removed from this forum asap.

AS far as function goes....it/they work very well. Although I think they should have stuck with the knob functions of the Super SAFC vs the SUPER SAFC II

The manuals for both could have been arranged much better. MUCH better. It looks like something I would have written/put together.

also it's true for cars that have a problem after the blow off valve vents. But not if your bov vents at idle. It's called teh deceleration air control or something. It's for cars with hot wire style AFM's. RX-7's don't have that so you shouldn't have to worry about after bov... mine's worked fine for me. I think the SAFC1 has this feature also, but could be wrong.

I've been doing a little research, since I'm trying to decide which version to buy. Apparently the SAFC 2 has 12 adjustment points and the SAFC only has 8? Will that result in much better performance?

Would any of you reccomend one of the s-afc as a first mod on an na? im looking to get mileage and a boost in horses as well,

safc2 adds...

*2 mode data file storage fro different fuel management requirements.
*password protection feature to prevent unatorized tampering.
*easy to use graphiz equalizer style fuel management setting
*real time knocking monitor for vehicles equipped with a factory knock senor (yes we have em at least turbos do)

and they have black models that match our interior better than the silver ones, hehe :)

Seeing as how there are multiple threads in this forum asking the difference between the S-AFC and the S-AFCII, this one seems to be the one with the most information.

My question is this. I drive a 90 GXL, and don't see any track time for it in the short-term. Too many other things to get on it, such as suspension and decent tires. It does, however, run pig rich. Would I benefit from saving a bit of money and just getting the SAFC? I'm not sure that I would need all 12 points on the S-AFCII, and I obviously don't need anything dealing with a BOV or boost.
