very important S-AFCII questions
i got mine today, and i want to ask of the rest of you mainly two questions but i expect a few more will arise.
one can i install it before i plan to go to a dyno, ie can i do it today and then my car will be fine untill i can go to to the strip to tune. two can i get as many pepl as i can to post where you ran the wire thru the firewall and where you mounted you unit[i dont have the bracket] thanks very much in advance, john |
Yes, you can install it and leave all of the hi and lo settings at zero (no change). Just make sure all of your other settings are correct. I can't remember them all or otherwise I would tell you what they are.
What wire are you trying to run through the firewall? All of my connections were made at the harness at the ECU. As for where mine sits...it sits on the passenger seat since I don't have the bracket and I made my cable long enough for it to reach. Dan |
If you're trying to use the pressure sensor instead of the TPS that's the only reason you'll have for running a wire through the firewall.
I ran the wire across behind the center console towards the drivers side. Right above the clutch pedal there is a really large rubber groumet, it's pretty easy to slide it through there. It will come out by the slave/master cylinder for the clutch. |
ima moron, im sorry i was thinking they should be spliced by the air flow meter......*durrr*.....sorry*slaps forehead*
is it better to not use the TPS? i have heard of pepl using the pressure sensor but i don't know why you whould. other than that i need to know about the values i need to use i know that i use 2 for number of cylnders. but im sure there are plent more i need. anyone know?? |
If you have a s4 I would reccommend using the pressure sensor. The s4 TPS will read 100 percent at only 1/3 throttle.
Both will work fine. |
okay then i need to know how to wire ie to the pressure sensor then please
|
In and Out will be 5 and 5. I also believe the arrow should be up and to the right. I can't remember beyond that and I don't have my car with me.
I guess I'll be rewiring mine off of the pressure sensor, as well. :) Dan |
anyone else have anything they can add, thanks much to both of you guys for your help!
|
|
thanks very much man!!
|
i remeber a thread with a graphic of whith wires to use on the ecu for S4's and S5's but i cant seem to find it.
i need to know which wires to tap into for sure, plus i have no idea which is the knock sensor. ill give the ol' haynes manual a look over. |
I don't know about on the forum, but I believe you can find a diagram that shows the plugs and which wires on the Apex'i website.
Dan |
http://1300cc.com/howto/how2/safc.htm that link shows you which wires go where
|
i need to know which wire on the ecu is the knock sensor??????
|
ˇˇvery very pissed!!
im 99percent sure i wired it right but it isnt turning on!! is there a comon mistake made i gadda go to work in like 20 mins. i guess i can work on it tonight, god this pisses me off. is there a special way to turn it on i thought it was acc. powered?? please help me out here |
Hi Jester
Did you connect both of the grounding wires, black AND brown. I just installed mine today, but Im having my share of problems with it:( I guess im just stupid or too eager*sp* to get it going. You need to set the number of cylinders to be four, it says in the manual that for rotary vehicles it should be: number of rotors x two Kim |
Yeah the cylinders should be set to 4. and N/A's dont have knock sensors from what I've heard, only the TII's do - I think you have an N/A dont u? (when I did mine there was no wire for a knock sensor from what I could make of the wiring diagrams in the FSM)
|
i conected both grnds brown about an inch from the plug and black about another inch down the line....
could it be shorting out ill wrap everything tite tomorrow and check the wires i didnt use too but other than that it dosnt even light up when i turn my car on....  |
is an s-afc worth it for an n/a? because i was thinking of buying one.
thanks eric. |
bump, no other thoughts??
|
if its wired right, could it be the actual unit?
|
Okay I know this is underestimateing your intelligence BUT: Did you accidently hook it up according to the S5 wireing instructions.
I had a few problems too with installing an american market unit in my european GLX, mostly wires at the ecu that weren´t what they should be:( |
I had the same problem when I installed mine; turned out I forgot to plug the two parts of the safc harness together.
Assuming you have a real problem though, check the connections for the power and ground, it should turn on in acc if both are connected properly. Also I hope you didnt install it with the crimp connectors it came with, those things are worthless. |
okay no worries........especially for those who questioned my intelligence........hahaha.....
i had both diagrams, S4 and S5, but i used the S4 one so that was fine.....even thought i double checked to make sure....... ...my problem was in that i read the digram as though it were from the front of the plug...........hahaha........gezz im dumb when i figured it out i was like.......why was my car even running for a day like that?!?!? its all good now,.....300 dollars guages in place now all i gadda do is head to the dyno to get some horses out of it. thanks alot everyone, john |
