Tuning SAFC2

Hello everyone...I bought an fc not too long ago...and it undergo some modification and as all beginner I need help...
I have wired Safc2 on my 86fc turbo and programed 5in 5out 4cycl with the up arrows. I want to tuned this ecu piggy back ie:the value of all the 12 Ne points's, TH points, and the lo-throttle and hi-throttle values. Can anyone help me please??
Mod includes: 4x720cc injectors, walbro fuel pump (255lph), 3" pipe and everthing else pretty much stock (for now anyways)

anyhelp is greatly appriciated...

feel slower

I have tuned my safc2 but there are things that bother me. It feel that my rx is slower than stock. before I install safc and injectors...I ran a 6psi boost on it (and it ran good) but now after 4x720cc injectors and safc2....my boost drop to 5psi and it feel that my car ran slower than before (may be because lower boost??)
The guy (mech) told me I needed a good spark plugs and wires....but I replace them with denso plugs (they're $8 a piece) and a split-fire 7mm wires....so I dont understand why my car feel run slower...
any help??

720ccm injectors and fuelpump seems overkill for just a 3" downpipe.

Im no pro at turbos, but im guessing that you are choking your motor with all that fuel

anyone know how much stock 87 fc3s turbo make out at rwhp??

excivicguru 11-26-04 12:00 AM

do u hve a adjustable fuel pressure reg.? get one and run it a lil leaner and see if that helps ur motor come back to life

Around 150-155 depending on condition of the motor

gkarmadi 11-27-04 11:34 PM

isnt it a superAFC a fuel pressure reg??....I mean it is tuning the air fuel ratio..
after all the mod done in my rx...I was hoping for 250rwhp...but I get only 180rwhp...

anyone knows a good coils and plugs and wires for FC??

Kim 11-28-04 08:05 AM

SAFC = Super Air Flow Converter, it tricks the ecu to generate different output to the injectors.

FPR = Fuel Pressure Regulator, is used to alter fuelpressure if you have installed an aftermarket fuelpump.

Id say that 250rwhp is about as far as you can go on the stock Hitatchi turbocfharger, not exactly sure though...

gkarmadi 11-28-04 11:06 AM

I have a 255lph walbro fuel pump (I think this is one of the most common aftermarket fuel pump used in FC)...Do you think I need one of this??
I heard so much talking about porting wastegate....but if I only running boost for 12psi... I dont need a ported wastegate..right?? (or do I?)

btw thanks alot for everyone helps so far

Without andjusting the turbo pressure you'll never be able to gain 100bhp by just adjusting the fuel delivery. You need to get a boost controller (mechanical or electronic).
Then get it on a dyno and hook up a wideband lambda sensor. Add boost, but make sure your lambda ratings don't go too high. 11'ish would be max.
There's a couple similar threads in this forum. Have a red through and you'll find some more interesting info.

I have a turbo boost controller...from "turboxs"...and I brought it to dyno...and the mech told me...my plug isnt good enough (only for 180rwhp). but this plug is denso (and I tought they have a high heat range....after all they cost about $8usd a piece)
I have spent about $2000cdn...and ma car only incresed 25hp more from stock...therefore I tought I did something wrong...or missed tuned my SAFC.
thanks for your help.

Have a look at the links posted in this thread for more info on setting up the SAFC2

Oh and I paid much more for my plugs ... (NGK BUR9EQ if I'm not mistaken)

gkarmadi 12-01-04 07:40 PM

Thanks for the links...
Yea..I heard about this plug...(I think it is $50cnd a piece)..but I tought because my turbo is still stock...then I dont need this "racing" plugs.
but it seem I have to use this ngk iradium plugs after all.

deevious 12-02-04 03:54 AM

These aren't racing plugs I'm using. They're what Mazda prescribes for trailing (I believe) plugs. I use them both in trailing and leading. The iridiums are a grade above, but I've not heard of significant gains or strong need for them in modestly powered rotaries (300ish at the wheels).

gkarmadi 12-02-04 08:41 PM

what about altenator??...do you get brighter sparks...with an upgrade alt??
because right now...my prob is not enough spark...therefore need a better wires and plugs and may be an upgrage alt??

deevious 12-03-04 07:04 AM

You can upgrade to an FD alternator. This will make it for your system easier to cope with all the electrics. You can also add an aftermarket CDI system.

gkarmadi 12-03-04 05:39 PM

what's a cdi system?? (i am not familiar with this short term)

gkarmadi 12-03-04 07:55 PM

oh..yea..the "Hi-crane 6"...trying to save money to buy that ...
silverrotor told me about that...(I suppose to be able to purchased that from Canadian tire)

gkarmadi 12-05-04 08:55 AM

Is that true that with SAFC...we shouldnt upgrade our turbo??
ppl said that SAFC (or engine) will stop working/seized after about 1 year.

deevious 12-05-04 01:49 PM

There's no relation whatsoever. The SAFC II works totally independent from the turbo.
Neither should stop working after upgrading the turbo system. The engine will die only from improper care and/or improper tuning.

gkarmadi 12-05-04 09:15 PM

Its because ppl told me that piggy back ecu (such as SAFC) not very reliable ...but too late that I have own one already.
So do you have an SAFC and an upgraded turbo??

deevious 12-06-04 05:52 AM

I have an SAFCII, AVCR, 3" downpipe, Walbro fuel pump, but no upgraded turbo (yet). Still need to tune the lot, but right now I'm fabbing brackets for my e-fan. I'll probably start fiddling with the electronics early next year.

gkarmadi 12-06-04 09:43 PM

wow...you and I are almost in the same boat....(that's just what i got in ma car)
planning to do headlight this winter...and hoping to put in fmic (if I can find a good used and cheap).
hey...if I put in an fmic...then I can use an n/a hood right??

deevious 12-07-04 04:46 AM

Yes you can. Weight benefit is quite impressive. Just make sure both the FMIC and the rad get plenty of air flowing through them.
