safc wiring trouble

I just got a 1988 rx7 Turbo II and it had the safc in it but it wasn't working. The guy i bought it from said it was working. So i took the safc apart and i found the the plug for the wiring had come undone on the inside. So i took a look at the wiring at the ecu to make sure it looked good. A couple of wires were disconnected and the gray wire was going where the white is supposed to be ( i think the guy who had it was tying to fix it). I was planning on just re-wiring it up the way Apexi shows but i was wondering what what some of the other wires are for (pink, blue, orange and gray). It has the stock turbo, larger injectors, boost controller, turbo timer and i think a walbro fuel pump.

ok sorry i read further into some posts and i found the answers to my questions. But now i got it all wired up ant it wont run. I have fuel pressure but its like the injectors are not firing. I tried running the air flow wires straight through like stock and it still doesn't run. I have plenty of spark. Any ideas.

Make sure you have the same settings.

yeah i already read that but unfortunately all the settings were already right. I don't think it's necessarily a problem with the sacf but I'm really not sure.

I would take it out and see if the car runs then. That way you no if its the car or safc

no it doesn't run with it out either. My spark was orange/yellow i think maybe im flooding it, because i can smell gas on the plug. But it might be flooding because the spark may not be good enough. Im gunna try to unflood it and see what happens.

ITSWILL 12-22-07 07:29 PM

Well I unflooded it and it still didn't start. A little while later the beeping noise for the key being in the ignition came on which i never heard b4. I tried to crank it and it popped a couple times, but I had poured gas into the intake so i think that may be why it popped. Im thinking maybe the gas is just bad or something. I put a fresh battery in it and now the spark is blue like it should be. Im gunna try to get some fresh gas in it and see what happens. Should i premix and if so what is the mix?

did you fix this? If not I may know your problem.

Try disconnecting the SAFC's White and Yellow wire from the AFM wire at pin 2E (Green w/ blue stripe). Connect the two halfs of the AFM wire together (G/L) and try to start the car. You can leave everything else on the SAFC connected.

If the G/L wire is not connected securley or if the ECU is not seeing any voltage on the G/L wire, than the engine could flood. I have got my engine to run without that wire hooked up before but let me tell you..... its tough keeping it running while you can't go over 1000 rpm and there is tons of smoke out the back.

well i havent quite fixed it

I can get it to start if i pour gas down the intake tube after the intercooler, but then it runs like crap?

this might be of topic but try restabing the cas

ITSWILL 05-26-08 09:13 PM

thanks man it turned out the seals were sticking and giving me low compression with the combination of the ecu not getting the start signal it wouldn't run.
