Safc vs Safc 2

Is there a noticable difference between the Safc or Safc 2.
The Safc's are now getting cheaper while the Safc2's are still up in the $350 range?

Is it worth going for the chaper of the 2 or should I start saving?

calio64 08-09-04 01:31 PM

buy the safc 2 , on ebay there running no more than 250, my buddy got lucky and got 1 for 210

87RX7TII 08-10-04 06:25 AM

but if i can get an Safc for $50-$100 it it worth the extra 150?

-=Lil Red=- 08-14-04 09:44 AM

i got my safc2 for $275, damn i thought i got lucky! haha

hasnt been tuned yet so i cant help u decided which is better, but heck why not just get a new one man, ull be happier in the end, with peace of mind that it is brand new and u have warranty :)

Ranzo 08-17-04 07:37 PM

The newer S-AFC has more options for someone who really wants to tune. Read about it on the Apexi website. It is worth the money if you are going to tune for the street and some weekend track time.

Yes, you can run 720CC injectors with the SAFC (the blue screen one at least). You can run 4x720, or 2x550 and 2x720.

Since -50% correction is as low as you can go, a combined total of 4400cc/min is theoretically possible (the individual injectors sizes don't matter). But if you actually need that much fuel (good for well over 500hp) you should've chucked away the stock ECU and piggybacks a long time ago...
An intercooler shouldn't affect the SAFC. It may effect tuning, but not the operation of the SAFC itself.

Can u run 850's on the new safcII?

usmcjsy 02-03-05 04:55 PM

I ran 890cc secondaries and 720cc primaries for awhile with my S-AFC. I have the older one with the buttons. I have heard of to many people not liking the joystick on the S-AFCII. You can still buy the older one brand new if it is a concern. Anyway I like the one better. I paid the same for mine as a SAFCII. I could have gotten the II but I like the original. Anyway thats my 2 cents.

the AFC has alot more options. plus its has more tuning points in the rpm band. the old SAFC has i "think" 8 and the new one has 14 or somthing like that i forget. the APEXi site last time i checked has the OLD safc1 specifications. and ALL websites that sell the SAFC2 have the old SAFC1 specs. I will try to find teh SAFC2 specs. I saw them on one site and only one. ill try to find it.

Ask rocky at Rotary Performance what he thinks about the SAFCII.

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 02-16-05 06:31 PM

Why what will he say?

usmcjsy 09-18-05 01:59 AM

He will say the little toggle/joystick breaks off and its not as user freindly. He said he sold some and people complained about the quality so he just sells the original SAFC now. I had a friend who had a DSM who had the original SAFC then switched to the 2 and then he switched back. He said that the buttons were much easier than the toggle. Besides if you want a setting for the track and one for the street just write your settings down on a index card and throw it in the glove box. It only takes a minute to plug in the settings. Either way it boils down to a matter of opinion personal preferance.

Should I ditch my AFC? When I say AFC, i mean afc, not safc. Yea, I have the unit that has the five knobs on it. No screen what so ever. Says 1997 on it.

DriftingB26RX7 09-21-05 02:21 PM

hey guys, my friend hooked me up with a s-afc 1 for like 10 bucks, can you guys post pics of where u have your mounted, and aslo is it easy to use ?

full-cruise 10-11-05 03:03 AM

damn $10 that one hell of a deal..

herrafass 10-29-05 10:24 AM

think an safc would produce coupled with 550 primaries,720 secondaries, port matched intake manifold/throttle body? it's an 87 n/a w/ 2 3/4" exhaust.

deathbe2me 10-31-05 10:19 PM

i just bought a 89 vert, and it has a SAFC in it (NOT the SAFC 2). and i know nothing about it, but all the knobs are at the '0' mark. do i have to put the car on a dyno to adjust them properly, or is there a general pattern i can set that will run better???/ what exactly will the SAFC control?

and i think there is a loose (ground?) wire, but i grounded it, and it didnt change anything, however, SOMETIME, not always, the 'check engine' light comes on, and the tach wont work. but if i slightly move the carpet by the ecu [passenger foot/firewall area???] (i think), and then SAFC is in the glove box, the light goes off and the tach works. if nothing else could i take a pic and host it (on myserver) and you all could look at the ECU? and possibly tell me where the wire goes or is too or if it should be grounded...or anything.....

and what all is required and how hard is it to install a A/F guage?

Thank You
Caleb

I was pretty comfortable getting a used S-AFC for $100.

If someone offers you one for $10, it's probably broken or stolen.
Either way you have a problem.

SureShot 11-10-05 07:35 AM

Installing an AFR gauge is pretty basic.

The trick is tapping the O2 signal right at the ECU.
That way you don't have to deal withe the coaxial shield on the harness wire.

I used a shielded wire to feed the gauge. That may have been overkill, but I already had the coax.
