SAFC tuning?
 

I posted this a few days ago in the general tech. area and got no responses. I never knew this area existed and it's obviously a more appropriate area for my thread.

I just got my engine swaped about 540 miles or so ago. I have an Apex'i SAFC (super airfuel converter) I've been using it mostly for monitoring settings and such. But I would like to tune this engine before I ending up blowing it. I'm still in the breaking in period so I haven't driven it hard.

So basically what I'm asking is there a place in So Cal that would tune my 1988 10AE RX7. I've called SP Engineering and they suggest I buy F-Con, because they don't tune the SAFC. And how much do you think they would charge.

Or if you suggest I get another e-manage system, which would you suggest. What is your experience with tuning FCs, or Tuning of any kind.

The S-AFC works great on an S4 if you wire the S-AFC's throttle lead to the pressure signal.
The S4's TPS is only linear for about the first 30% of the throttle stroke.
In cold air you get way more boost for the same throttle the you would get in warm air.
That way the interpolation from low to high map is triggered by boost (when it's actually needed).
I tuned my own with a cheap narrow band AFR gauge and a mechanical boost gauge.
Leaning out the low map while crusing was easy.
My RPM points are 1000, 2000,2500,3500,4000,5000,6000,7000.
That gave better control at the secondary injector cut on point.
Without a wideband AFR, I had to be VERY careful with the high boost map.
Right now I'm staying in low boost while troubleshooting a fuel pressure problem.

I'm very new to tuning so I'm not really sure what to do in a case such as mine. I wanted to just take it somehwere to get tuned. But since you tuned it yourself do you have any links to a site or where I can get some info as to how to tune it myself that I can read up on.

It's a risk vs. budget deal.
One false step & the motor gets hurt.
If you have affordable access to tuner shop, I'd go there.
