SAFC question. throttle adjustment

Can someone thoroughly explain the difference between the high and low throttle settings as well as the throttle point setting. I don't fully understand these.

You basically can set 2 diffrent fuel maps..
One map that's in effect at and below set lo throttle setting and a High throttle map that kicks in when you are at or above your set high throttle setting .. anything inbetween in interpolated..

ie: you set low setting at 30% and High setting at 90% ..
anytime you are at or under 30% throttle you will be working off the Low setting fuel map.. anytime you are at 90% or above you are on the high throttle map .. if you are at 50% throttle it interpolates a correction between the lo and the high maps..

Awesome. That helped out a lot. Thanks.

Sorry for bringing back old thread been searching that long

I am having difficulties understanding the lo and hi settings on the safc1.. If using the boost sensor instead of tps what should the settings be? 30%-70% is what I have now and with my mods which are (rtek 1.5,fmic, fd fuel pump, 3'' dp rb exhaust, s5 turbo wg port seeing 5psi, lc-1 wideband, safc1, 720 secondaries,tII conversion)

The afr's don't reflect this set up meaning at one point I could lean out the lo 1000 down -25 after a run now can only go -11 before she wants to die. Also the afr's kinda lean at wot around 13-14 but shouldn't I be rich all over the board because of the bigger injectors and fd fuel pump?

I don't have any instructions on how to set/tune the safc1 meaning I wired it but what now?

I know I will hear take it to the dyno(where is one in the bayarea?) but I'm tired of pussy footing putting the rx on a pedastol I dont mind if I blow it up I'm tired and just want some direction cuz im lost....
So can anyone give me a breakdown on where to start tuning using the boost sensor? S4 with the everyday mods sorry for the long post but Iv'e been reading and reading getting nowhere..

well 13-14afr are way to lean under boost at wot. i would try to set the throttle position a little lower like 20-50 or something like that because if you think about it it interpolates in between so you would want it at a lower throttle opening just incase it goes lean it would be lower throttle. your afrs should be around 11-11.5 under boost.

He's using the boost sensor, not the TPS.

RickRx 09-17-07 03:28 PM

I would love to get down to the 11's hell I'll deal with 10's and waist gas atleast I get to drive.. doing some googling wish me luck

Roen 09-17-07 04:19 PM

You might just want to set it like it's been suggested and run it off the TPS input. Then it gets decent easy to set.

Though, it's a decent idea to set it off the boost sensor....if it works, that is.

So no one has set the throttle point using boost sensor?

I got this off the net http://members.cox.net/precisionimag...image/SAFC.htm

His value system did not work says my wideband. I set the low at 1000(-15) 2000 (-8) 3000(-2) 3500(-0) 4000(+3) 5000 (+4) etc. And can keep the afrs 13-12 But the problem I still have is this throttle point. Is it possible to set it close lo 1 hi 2 or lo 98 hi 99?

Roen 09-17-07 06:12 PM

you can set it close, but are you sure that's what you want to do? You just end up tuning one map.

RickRx 09-17-07 06:32 PM

I see what your saying, I set it to 35 lo and 50 hi, we will see tonight. I have to increase the gas like +14 and up 3500-6000 should this be normal with 720 secondaries? To see 12's on the low setting

Roen 09-17-07 06:42 PM

I wouldn't be the best person to ask regarding turbo tuning.....someone else will have to help you there.

RotaMan99 09-17-07 08:57 PM

If you have a S4 and running the SAFC off the TPS, then you want the LO to be 98 and the HI to be 99.

If you running off the boost sensor, this should be more to load and you could space out the throttle points more for more control over the load range. Say LO - 30% and High 80-90%. I have not run an SAFC off a boost sensor before, although I will sometime soon, mine is running off the full range TPS right now.

BTW. Do NOT Follow those instructions for setting up the SAFC. They are wrong since they are not for our car and those set points would be off as well. NEVER EVER use someone elses setup points, especially if they are for another engine. Look in the SAFC sub forum and you will find your answers.
