Is our only option direct wire? Can we buy piggy back harness'? Or am I going to have to hack this thing up?

that is pretty much the only option, yeah. i guess you could make your own adapter, but that's as much work as splicing into the existing harness. as long as your are decent with wiring and splicing into insulated wire, it's not too bad. it's only a couple of wires.
make sure you have good lighting, and try to get as much room to work as possible. also use good tools (proper wire stripper and soldering iron).
when i put mine in it was the first time i did anything like that, and it's still fine 2+ years later.

Its not really hacking anything to install an SAFC II. Ive done two of them, soldered both. It takes some care and patience but the stock wiring harness is still completly usable without the SAFC and works fine with no ill effects. The guy that bought my engine and harness hooked it up without incident and it works great.

No. Buy a harness adapter from Banzai. You can splice the SAFC into that without hacking the stock harness. That's as plug and play as it will get.

Riverendz.. Do you have a link? I never liked the idea of cracking open the harness.. Plus i am about to drop $600 on a Brand NEw Mazda harness.

Yeah wow... $150 was a little more then I expected... I may need to sell something else.. I am buying the SAFC and really don't want to hack up a NEW OEM Harness. I guess thems is the breaks... $150 isn't too bad.. That is just what I paid for the SAFC. I guess $1000 in electronics isn't terrible...

New harness- $600
SAFC- $150
Adapter- $150
E-fan wiring- $40
Various sensors- $60

Total $1000.

Hopefully this will get the car tuned right.

for that kind of money you can buy a standalone

$150 is the going rate. Rotary Performance sells them for the same price.

I made my own harness

3.00 in harnesses
20.00 in a butane soddering gun/2700*F torch
2.00 in lead for soddering
1 hour to make the SAFC harness 1 hour to make the FC harness, 2 seconds to connect.

If you do it nice n clean you aren't "hacking" up the harness, plus id rather have nice soldered connection than more pins for everything to go through...less resistance.

Rx7.com also sells the harness but I think its about the same price
