S-AFCII and the S4, Which way to wire!
Ok who from experience can tell me the best way to wire the SAFCII, into the S4? Should I go into the TPS or the Pressure Sensor? I am going to be running a BNR Stage3 Turbo and 4 720cs injectors. I plan on running 15-17 psi of boost. So if anyone has any good advice I am all ears. I have got all the parts but have not put them in yet. So I am just looking to see what ways people have wired the SAFC and how happy they are with the results. I have searched and there seems to be a lot of discussion about the different ways to wire it. I guess I wanna know how happy everyone is with the way have theirs wired.

use the pressure sensor, it will save you a lot of gas and make running the 720's in the primaries a lot easier. What do you plan on doing with ignition timing?

I dunno what do you suggest? I was thinking of getting that R-tec ECU upgrade so I can ditch my FCD. I was wondering if the ECU can see full boost if it would retard the timing? Otherwise BNR suggested to retard it 4 degrees. You have any input? So your car runs like it should with it hooked via the pressure sensor? Thats the way I think I will go. Thanks for your advice.

Jeremy Henrik, the guy who created the rtek is working on an ecu that could support 720/550 and 720/720 injector combos as well as timing. If and when it'll ever get to that point is not certain. |
Ya I will check that out on corksport, I saw a Apexi ITC on RX7.com I emailed them about it and they said it is no longer available. It is still on the website though. Well let me know how your new turbo treats ya. I just bought a FMIC off Ebay its 21x9x3. I was thinking of doing a setup like on 1300cc.com. Well let me know how you get evrything to work out and I will do the same. Thanks for the input, It sounds like I will be running the Safc off the boost sensor.

Hey I checked that ECU on corksport, sounds pretty cool. I wonder if they could really program an ECU from just a list off my mods. What do you think..?

You'll still have to have some sort of fuel controller. If you check out teamfc3s henrik is actually going to release an ecu that will drop the secondary activitation point to 3500 and will retard timing .7 degrees/pound of boost past 9 pounds. I'm wary about the elp ecu simply because no one really has any hard information about it. Weather it's the same ecu g-force used to do, or something entirely custom no one really knows.

Ya I dont know I have searched but came up with nothing. Doesn't the stock ECU retard timing with boost? I was just wondering if I got the R-tech ECU with the fuel cut removed so I did not need the FCD, if the the stock ECU would retard the timing sense it would then be able to see 15 psi of boost..? I dunno maybe I am stretching for somthing here. Anyway I called corksport and they said they have done a lot of ECUs with a setup like mine except instead of 4 720s they want me to run 2 550s and 2 850s...? I dunno, they also said I would still want to run a SAFC and this upgrade just makes dialing the SAFC in a bit easier.
I just sent my turbo into BNR today for a stage 3. So stay in touch as we are gonna be running similar turbos and set up. I would like to know how your stuff is working, I will do the same. Jeremy |

Jeremy the 550/850 combo would be perfect if you went with a stand alone, however on the stock ecu you'll run lean before the secondaries come online. With a stand alone you can set the secondaries to come online after a certain boost pressure is reached, instead of by rpm. Having 720's in the primaries will keep you from running lean before the secondaries come online. Henrik's new ecu would take care of the ignition retard problems, and also help a little by lowering the limit at which the secondaries come online. With the safc tied into the pressure sensor I really don't think it will be that much of a pain to tune the safc. Under 6 pounds I'll leave it at stock values (actually - 15 percent, and -30 percent above secondary activation point...haven't done the math whatever it is) and then above that I'll plug in the values for a hi-thrtle map around 8 pounds. It'll take an hour or two on the dyno to get everything dialled in. Also henrik has found that for ever 10 degrees of negative correction on the ecu, the timing is advanced 1 degree. I would probably retard the overall timing 2-3 degrees so when taking the effect the safc would have on the ecu it would be effectively back to stock. Are you running a front mount? |
Ya I just bought one off Ebay. Its 21x9x3. Not installed yet though, I still need to buy and configure the piping.
