Help!!! S-afc Install

I just finnished the install, no car wont start..........It has NO SPARK. What could I have taped int to make it lose spark? I only cut 1 wire that was for the AFM.

Also the S-AFC doesnt save my settings, everytime i turn the key on i can go thru the set-up (car select and the 5in5out stuff) its alwasy set back to factory.

Randokuky 01-06-07 04:57 PM

what pin # is the AFM?

Randokuky 01-06-07 05:05 PM

If its resetting and not holding mem. and the its going from flaper to karmen or what ever could that be the problem?

Randokuky 01-06-07 05:16 PM

Is it 3D? solid brown? if so i cut the wrong wire.........

Randokuky 01-06-07 05:29 PM

Ok, also with it on the thing resets when I turn the key over.

Randokuky 01-06-07 05:33 PM

Could my grounds being to close cause this, I thought i put them far enuff away. Little over 1cm apart, but by chance I fuked my reading COULD this cause the car not to start?

Randokuky 01-06-07 06:05 PM

Ok, car starts seems i cut the wrong wire for the AFM. I know the AFM is a green/blue wire. So now im wondering why it wont save settings. Im guessing my grounds are to close so ill change that around. and post the results.

loskeezy 01-06-07 06:18 PM

www.1300cc.com ..... Go to Engine performance under 2nd gen section

Randokuky 01-06-07 07:03 PM

did that, and i followed it

So now I re did the grounds, Hooked the AFM to the rite wire, and the throtle sen up rite.

Now the car runs for a few secs and dies......and it still wont save my settings......

Randokuky 01-06-07 07:35 PM

Come on....anyone have any ideas? why this thing will not rember my settings? I have the wires crimped with the stuff that came with it......It works when the key is on when i turn the car over to start it it goes off and nothing is saved......

staticguitar313 01-06-07 07:59 PM

your very persistant, and notice how its not getting you anywhere

Randokuky 01-06-07 08:09 PM

I have searched and searched, that how i found the pin or the AFM and from what i read this maybe caused by faulty AFM wiring. Im gonna try sodering everything tomorrow but i still dont understand why it wont save my settings.

anewconvert 01-06-07 08:19 PM

Its probably not saving your settings because it isnt getting power when you shut down the car.

Now I have never installed one of these, but my guess is that if you have to tap into a power wire that you have taped into a key on power and not an always on power.

Just a guess. Like I said I havent installed one of these.

I used the Black/white wire in the top corner of the smallest conector

Randokuky 01-06-07 08:56 PM

Im using pin 3B for power.

Also when I turn my headlights on/of it rests, so im guessing the connection between the 2 is shit, I didnt solder I crimped everything. Tomorrow ill be soldering everything and well see how that goes. Thx to the people that inputed thier .02.

Randokuky 01-06-07 11:22 PM

Ok, well I went ahead an soldered the wire togather, it still runs like shit. I unhooked the safc unit (the harness is still wired in) and the car starts and holds idel....has a MASSIVE hessatation (ill assume cause the AFM was bypassed for the s-afc witch isnt pluged in) so ill be bitching out the people who sold me the part.

Randokuky 01-06-07 11:58 PM

with the key in the on postion my afl and thr both read 100%

xzyras 01-09-07 12:45 AM

If your s-afc powers up, it should hold the settings regardless of how its hooked up. It runs off a rom chip that loads up every time it powers up. It may be bad. Call Apexi and ask them, they can help you over the phone.

Sounds as though you have it setup wrong. You may have it wired right, but you have to set everything correctly.

for the AFL In, Out settings:
S4 cars - In 5 Out 5
S5 Cars - In 6 Out 6

TPS Arrow should be pointing up

Make sure you set the AFL to FLAP.

Go into "sensor chk" I think its in ETC mode and make sure that when you press the throttle, the TPS voltage goes up. Move the AFM flap or cone in and make sure the voltage goes down.

To be safe I would wire the AFM wire up so that if you had to remove the SAFC, you can unhook the AFM wires from the SAFC and connect the 2 halfs of the AFM wire together using spade or butt connectors. Mine got stolen one day and luckily I was smart enough to do that so I could easily reconnect the AFM wire and the car would run normal.

I found this information on the APEXI website

Q: My SAFC/VAFC/AVCR does not retain any of the data that I program into it? Is something wrong?
A: Please make sure that the INITIALIZE setting is set to the NO position. This menu can be found under the ETC. Mode. The INITAILIZE setting should never be set to YES unless you want to reset all of the information to the default factory settings.

Pin 3B is the START signal from the ignition switch and is a Black/Blue colored wire.

You are confused and have the SAFC wired wrong.

Pin 3I is a black/white wire. Your reading the plugs ass backwards/unside down/backwards/crosseyed.

Back to square one. You probably have not destroyed the SAFC, but just wired it wrong. The evidence is on page one of this thread.

And Here:

As you can see, you look at the plug from the wire side of the plug. The lettering is from right to left in an up/down fashion.

You can see what the color of the wires are if you look at the jpgs above.

Here are three jpg of ECU plugs and what SAFC wrie goes where. I figure the thread starter probably has his wires right now but this might help someone else with a series four car.

LY= Blue wire with Yellow stripe

GR= Green wire with Red stripe

GL= Green wire with Blue stripe

BrB= Brown wire with Black stripe

BW= Black wire with White stripe

what it sounds like to me is that you are missing the constant voltage, you know the voltage that keeps your digital clock/stereo memory. so every time the car is shut down you lose the settings or if the key is in aux then u start the motor the constant is drawn to the alternator so again you lose the settings...but thats just my opinion cause i had a wiring problem that was similar but it was in the main harness. good luck
