gains with n/a car

what sort of power gain if any can i expect out of a s4 n/a, and what amount of increase in MPG have people gotten, just wondering if its worth my time & money

Templeton 06-16-08 04:07 PM

cars been a work in progress for a few months but i was getting 22mpg with spirited driving.
mods which i assume are relevant:

im curious as well....

someone enlighten us

depends on your tuning abilities. My buddy swore 10-15whp on his but never dyno'd it.

RotaMan99 06-28-08 12:40 PM

160-170rwhp without porting. This is with the help of a S5 intake manifold, open exhaust, cai and a few other little upgrades. This is also highly dependant on your compression.

I'll dyno my car upon completion I'm looking for somewhere around 150-165whp. I'll dyno within the next 3 months.

i have street port, racingbeat road race exhaust, no emmisions, on an s4. on aug 3 im geting it dynoed and ill post them numbers then im getting my super afc put on then ill dyno it again and post them numbers. maybe to see a difference

Any one have any info on this?

FirstRotaryExp 10-21-08 07:28 PM

Ive had a SAFC-II on my 88 NA for a couple years now. Only really started messing with it since last year. My list of mods include: Stock ported mazda reman (55k miles), Racing Beat Header/presilencer, 2.25" SS exhaust piping into a cheap ( O ) shaped muffler *thats as it looks from the back of the car*, Ford Taurus E-Fan, cheapish cone filter, no emissions, and the SAFC-II. These would be my only 'power' gains or modifiers and im seeing 23mpg with a very heavy foot, driving the car back and forth to work 10 miles interstate (avg speed 80-90mph) an 15miles city driving (avg speed 50-60). 1st thru 2nd gear is always redlined, and only on the highway does 3rd and sometimes 4th get redlined. Ive also done numerous runs up and down US129 (aka 'the dragon') with the car left in 2nd gear all the way up and down.

That said my maps are all geared towards removing fuel from the stock map, with 17% fuel removed at idle/1000rpm's with a general curve ending with 3% fuel removed at 8000rpm's. The SAFC was well worth buying, as I was only seeing around 18ish mpg one motor ago before some backyard tuning.

Its good for what it is and how much it can be had for, which can literally pay for itself over a years time depending how often you drive your car.

Hope any of this helped.

awesome info thanks

are you using a wideband with your tuning? if so which one?

cozmosland 11-24-08 03:09 AM

riving this, hoping for answer

Acroy 11-25-08 01:38 PM

I have S5 n/a, mild port, full RB exhaust, CAI, T2 fuel pump. Running a PLX wideband.

The car was running 11.5-12.5 afr under wot, backfire like hell between shifts!

Hi throttle set to 95%, Lo throttle 35% (just out of closed loop operation)

Leaned it out around 8-14% at 100% throttle, about 14afr (I'm conservative)

Leaned out 12-20% at Lo throttle settings, around 15-16afr. Leaned it till it started to buck, then put back in 2-3% fuel.

Have not driven it enough to get mpg estimates. However, was getting around 25mpg cruise set at 75 on the highway. this is a gtus so slightly higher rpm's.

I understand the "educated backyard mechanic" n/a tuning method is to lean it out till the car starts to loose power or bucks, then add a bit back in

cheers

I cant wait for my safc!!!!

cozmosland 11-26-08 10:15 AM

which safc were you using? i have a neo...

and are you data logging?

segXD2 12-27-08 10:59 PM

I'm thinking about using the SAFC II as well. My buddy has one for sale, but don't know if I should buy it.

yeti 12-28-08 07:57 PM

I know FirstRotaryExp and he has not wideband tuned his car..

segXD2, just buy it and it if you don't like or want it resale it. You shouldn't have a problem reselling it. Anyway I have a safc-ii and I don't think I have really seen much difference and fuel mileage. But I'm scared to take a whole bunch out and I have never really tuned it either..

cozmosland 03-15-09 03:03 AM

anyone have any updated results

millertime6009 04-19-09 10:05 PM

I had mine tuned on a dyno. I have an 88 GXL. added in 9% 1k-3k, 13% 4k, 8%5k 6k, 6% 6500rpm and 8% 7k. made 13 whp over stock. I was VERY surprised he added fuel. Im thinking it may be because of my exhaust leak?
