Shop Recommendations in Louisiana???

Hello,

I'm a new owner of '93 RX-7 in New Orleans. I was hoping that someone could recommend a certified mechanic and shop for parts in the New Orleans or Baton Rouge area. Thanks!

Regards,
LMC3

If you are looking for someone to look at your car, check out Darrel at DCP motorsports. He is located on the website for Sevens on the shore http://ourworld.cs.com/_ht_a/talvendi/

Darrel can be reached at 504.242.5331

You can't beat Freddie at Meineke in Thibodeaux. He knows his stuff. He has a nice car too. I have never used Darrell so I don't know. Don't take it to a dealership. The one here in Baton Rouge is terrible.

Engine help needed in Louisiana!!!

ok... I just took out my engine that had coolant leaking from the exhaust. I assumed it was blown because I'm failry new to rotary engines:confused: . A family member gave me an engine but has been sitting up for a few years I can assume, that's what it looks like anyways. I was wondering if any of you knows where I can get it rebuilt or even a rebuilt engine. I want to stick a 13-b in my car but if I have to I will just get my engine rebuilt and parted with a new carb. I just really need some help because cash is kind of low and I think my options are kind of running out as well. I'm trying to get my car running with in the next year or at least as soon as I can. If you have any suggestions with me being new to this... please tell me because I can use any help I can get. Thanks, Mazdadrummer

well where are you from in louisiana? Let me know there are people in n.o. that can rebuild engines and there are people in houston that can rebuild them as well. If you are close to Lake Charles, where I am from there is a guy that can do it and even port it if you would like. If you go to www.rotaryavaition.com you can get a rebuild kit and a video that shows you how to do it yourself if you are mechanically inclined.

southernrunner 06-11-05 12:02 AM

So who can i get ahold of in new orleans to talk to about a rebuild or possibly a new engine?

hondahater 06-11-05 09:49 AM

I met a guy that came down here for an autox that had a shop. his name is hassan or something like that. From what I've heard he is very good with rotary engines. Maybe someone from around there can chip in and let you know.

Why not pull your engine and ship just the core to Rotary Performance for refurbishment? Their engines don't break. Sevens on the Shore knows of no one w/ a Louisiana business license who builds rotary engines.

Hassan and Allen own PSi down here in New Orleans. I used to autocross with the both of them "back in the day" when I used to autocross karts. Hassan has an extraordinarily badass second gen, and I've heard good things about them, as well.

hondahater 06-15-05 09:29 AM

oh cool ok I thought there was some good rotary guys in new orleans I just didn't know the names of any.

Hmmm - This will be another typical case of "not enough money to do it right, but enough money to do it twice" (see above post). This baseless hype as to "who's da' man" reveals the inexperience of youth - believing everything posted on the internet and being easily led to exchange hard-earned cash for a small lump of junk, tsk-tsk.:p:

Don't hate, grandpa.

:D

I called PSi the other day to find out about an engine rebuild, and it turns out that they ship the motors to Dallas to have them rebuilt by some dude there. If I am shipping my motor anywhere to have work done on it, it will be right back to Nick at RR&R who built the motor. Other wise, the work will be done by me or someone in state who does their own work.

BTW, Mark, does Freddy rebuild motors or does he just do tune-ups/installations? I'd really like to go up to Haughton one weekend to check out Jose's spread. I bet it would nice to see hundreds of rotaries in one building.

mark57 06-15-05 08:36 PM

Gotta hate the truth.:) Ask the local guys who've been screwed.:)

Freddie/Meineke does everything except get inside transmissions and rebuild engines(but has on rare occasion): A/C work, interior and electrical work, interrogating/trouble-shooting OBD1 and OBD2 ECU fault codes, alignments and wheel balancing, all brake and suspension work inc. hi-po parts installation, and all exhausts. A machine shop two doors down does the engines. Besides all the bread and butter work, we've done numerous RX7s, 4x4's, muscle cars, vintage cars, RVs, and a lot of stuff dealers and repair shops shun.... Like a rework of a butchered Hinson Supercars FD LS1 conversion, supercharging and turbo conversions, and some racecar work.

Exit I20 at Harrah's Louisiana Downs Haughton. It's a few miles down the hwy on the right. I could be wrong, but it seems a bit far to go to see a herd of dilapidated 7's; much better to proceed west and check out Rotary Performance in Dallas or attend Rotary Revolution, Sevenstock, Deal's Gap (even Sevens on the Shore) to see clean, high-performance cars. I'm being facetious.;)

clean85owner 06-16-05 02:57 PM

I want to go to Haughton, mainly, to see Jose's supercharged three-rotor 1st gen drag car. Along with his other 3 rotor applications in the shop.

And trust me, if I had the opportunity to go to Rotary Revolution, Sevenstock, or Deal's Gap, I would be all over that. I really would like to meet up with all of the SotS guys, but I would much rather do it after my car is in more of a presentable (driveable) condition.

hondahater 06-17-05 05:19 PM

wow so the only guy that rebuilds rotary engines in louisiana that people know about is jose??? Crazy, what a backwards state :( Oh well this is why you gotta learn to do it yourself I guess.

Or cough up some money and send it to people who are known.

I've heard of a few back woods rotary guys around Louisiana, butI wouldn't trust those engines for shit.

I'm the "dude" that Allen was telling you about that does the work. Have a peek at my website; my work isn't substandard.

I didn't mean to come off as if your work was substandard, I just feel that if I am going to ship my motor off to be rebuilt, why have a middle man take more money when I can ship it to someone myself?
