Thumbs up RX Club of Houston Monthly Meet - November 13th 2012 @ Southwell's Hamburger Grill

Our next regular monthly meeting is on Tuesday, November 13th at Southwell’s Hamburger Grill – 1909 Taylor St., in The Heights.

This is a new location to the lineup and a possible candidate for future club meetings, so come out and give us your feedback!!

As the end of the year draws near the club always tries to give back to the community and help lift the spirits of others in need.

At this meeting, we will be hosting a donation drive for Casa de Esperanza de los Niño’s ~ The House of Hope for Children. This is a safe place for children in crisis from abuse, neglect or effects of HIV.

For information on what items you can donate please visit the link below:http://www.casahope.org/how-you-can-...donations.html

Parking lot @ 6:30 PM
Dinner @ 7:30 PM
Sunset is 5:26, but don't let that stop you from coming out. The parking lot is very well lit and this meeting should have a great turnout

This location was recommended and endorsed TO the club by members, and was specifically chosen because of its size, lighting and perceived safety. They even have on-site security.

I don't want to disparage new ideas and growth at the expense of a humorous or negative comment. We are having a tough enough time getting responses to events online even though we are seeing 30+ members at the club meetings.

So who is coming?

Thanks for clarifying that, I know it was probably meant as a joke, but sometimes new members or people who've never come out before don't realize that. We hope to see you there!!

Southwell's rocks as a car meet location. It's well lit and has fantastic views of the parking lot while eating inside or outside. Frequent cop hangout as well, that's either good or bad depending on your view. It's pretty much Yuppy-ville around there. I've been there with my R for the European Auto Group monthly meet. They meet there once a month or so and have a much larger number of people than us.

Ditto this. Just to confirm this location is in the middle of the heights in a brand new(ish) shopping center with massive parking lot and tons of lights. If our typical meet grew 4x we would still have extra room at this location -- rotards unite!!

PS, I'll be there.

PPS, Scott -- if you're still interested we can swing by my place after the meet (I live half a mile from there) to grab those random FD parts your heart desires. No need to shoehorn them in my FD.

If you are scared, the somewhat new TX law allows keeping a gun in your car even if you do not have a CWL.

Let's all bring weapons?

Eek -- is that new? If so I have been in serious violation in the past ha.

This spot is as safe as it gets... but we should all bring firearms just to mix it up and otherwise celebrate the election from last week Chuck

Left home at 5:45 up 59 and when I got to 610, it was a parking lot going north and south. Got off at Westheimer and drove to Barry’s Pizza for a drink. Got there at 6:30.

Left Barry’s at 7:00, back to 59 and 610. 610 north was still a parking lot, 610 south was clear. Decided to go 610 south to Main/90A west to go home. No such luck. Just before Chimey Rock I could see that 90A west for a parking lot with hundreds of bright red tail lights. Got off at Chimney Rock up to S. Braeswood to 59S to home. Got home at 7:45.

Until next summer I am not leaving home until 7:15 - 7:30 unless the meets are on the south side.

We have been pleasing the ***** whipped married men who can not make weekend daytime meetings. Time to switch for a while. Years ago all meetings were daytime weekend. Made driving safer and easier!

We had a weekend meet just a few weeks ago.. where were you guys then???

I don't recall either of you guys making it out to the weekend meet we had back in July either...

Please email me directly if you'd like to discuss planning options.

Thanks.

In mid Sept. I had a biopsy done on an eye for cancer.
Oct 25 + 26 I had surgery on my right inner eye area for skin cancer.
Only for the last week have I had almost normal vision out of my right eye due to swelling. Today the stitches came out.

That sucks about the surgery... Did everything go OK? I can't imagine getting stitches in my eye (or eye area).

For years I had a small pigmentation in the inside corner of my right eye.
It started to creep onto the inner corner of the eyelids. Stage 0 of melanoma.
I was lucky they found it during my yearly exam.

They had to remove about 1/4"wide x 1/8"deep of both inner eyelids, the fatty mass in the corner between the eyelids, and the top of the tear duct.
Then stitch the end of the eyelids to the nose area. For about three weeks I could barely see out of my right eye but it is saved.

Only Kyle and Travis knew of this.

I am not seeking sympathy, just telling why I have not been very active lately.

Seems to run in my family as both my mother and sister have had similar cancers.

Look Chuck, I know you usually express your opinions pretty openly, so there's no need to hold back, especially with us.

I'm all for a weekend meet as well. I can't make most Tuesday meets due to being at school at LSU.

However, I'm not complaining about the meets being on Tuesday. The decision to keep the meets on Tuesday arose out of the club's own indecisiveness, as I remember.

May be a good idea to start a thread with a poll, see if people want to change the time. The only problem will be getting enough people to voice their opinions.

Again, not trying to stir the pot, just making a suggestion (that others have made a few times before, even in my short time with the club, with predictable results).
