OKLAHOMA owners '09
I know there a currently an older similar thread to this but like I said it's old and several people have either moved or sold thier cars.
The purpose of this thread is to get an idea of what rotary cars are still around and where they are. Ultimately Ide like to start a local meet to bring our small rotary community closer and not only have meets but also attend track days (HST, auto-x, drag strip) or even spirited cruises.(eureka springs). I should finally have my car "track ready" this year and would like to see what it (and I) can do. So with that said , I'll kick this off. So just copy and past the list and add your info on the bottom.:) |

I was thinking the same thing.

Yeah, at the last BBQ there were at least 4 or 5 FD's and I know a few of you were not there. We were hoping to do a lil get-together soon...

A fullsize 62-1 is pretty damn big & perfect for a rotary. ya ya you can go bigger but by the time a bigger turbo hits full boost THE 62-1 will have pulled way ahead in the 1/4 and a larger turbo would get killed on the track. and with this much hp potental few TURBOS will catch it:) with the proper fuel set up.
62-1 Fullsize (gold backplate) *500-625 HP Representing the careful marriage of a unique high-flow /high-efficiency compressor section teamed up with a T4 turbine section, the 62-1 has proven itself in every competitive motor sport application from drag racing to Bonneville. Available with either the standard (4" inlet, 2.5" discharge) compressor housing or the 60-1 Hi-Fi (2.75" inlet, 2" discharge) compressor housing, the 62-1 will outflow any standard T04B with ease! The 62-1 Hi-Fi will deliver approximately 90-95% of the flow capacity of the standard 62-1. The Lightweight compressor wheel with hot Isostatic Processing ensures the strongest wheel possible. These are the most versatile family of turbochargers |
well before you say "bigger turbo gets left behind" take a look at what other people are running and the times they're cutting.
I ran a T88-34D on a 1.0 hotside, I swapped hotsides to something semi custom around .89/.88 which made huge differences in spool. I've done the same thing again with another turbo. now with all that screwing around aside, there are features in current-day ecu's like "Anti Lag" and "No lift Shift". Makes it easier for those guys in PR to cut a 7sec 1/4 time on a big-boy turbo. Plan on running a PowerFC? I think Cyans setup will be a pretty tough car to beat when he's finished. I bet 1 large he'll max that 35r turbo real quick. :icon_tup: |
The 62-1 will deffinately perform well, I almost bought one a few years back but ended up going a different route. And depending on your turbine A/R you will probably be making low/mid 400s on 91 octane. 500whp is about the max you will see out of this turbo on a rotary. What a/r are yougoing with?
And the whole comment about smaller turbos beating out larger ones in the 1/4 mile is just ignorant. A quick spooling turbo is an advantage on a tight road course for sure but IMHO the 62-1 is not the "ultimate turbo" you make it out to be. |
I know a few guys in KS who are running GT45 (Masterpower) with a 1.10 hotside... they're pulling 9.5's off of it BUT it takes every bit of the driver to keep the spool up on the line and down the track. his ECU doesn't have NLS option but does ALS (AntiLagSystem).
I have a 62-1 in tha garage for parts.. never liked it vs. the ITS T66 or Precision GT42r. though i'm running really wild ignition map and calibration configuration. |
ProjectD dont recall saying a small turbo will beat a big turbo in the 1/4 because we all know bigger = more hp but a 62-1 is not small and a 62-1 pushing 400- 425hp with no lag vs a bigger turbo with lag hmmm.the 62-1 very good for tack and strip big turbos only good for straight lines.
Busted7 says he ran a 10.8 with a 62-1 @16psi think your setup can beat that if so give me a date to meet at the drags I want to see your setup pull a 10 @16psi. projectD (AFTER YOU GET IT ALL MAXED OUT AND SUCH THAT IS) I also never stated it was the ultamate turbo but as Turbonetics states it is a (premium turbo)which kinda means one of there best no?.But I am sure u know more about there turbos than thay do though. busted7 states I run the turbo your talking about and at 20 lbs on pump. It makes about 460 whp.. I say about becouse dynos vary quite a lot. But on a dyno pac it made 420 whp at 16 lbs. Go with the .96 ar full spool ported at about 3800 rpms. (I run 10.80's at 2740 lbs 1/4 mile!) And there are features in current-day ecu's like "Anti Lag" and "No lift Shift how many 7s around town with big turbos and no lag very few if any everyone I know with a large turbo has a issue with turbo lag My turbo is 62-1 turbonetics Performance Turbocharger(ball bearing)(with tuff turbo option) (A/R 70 compressor .96 exhaust side) (The 62-1 represents TURBONETICS’ efforts to produce a premium turbocharger for the engine builder looking for that extra “edge” of power). Based on hand selected compressor components precisely contoured on computer controlled machining centers, the 62-1 delivers an honest 10% greater airflow than the standard 60-1. The 62-1 is not for every one, but if you can handle its potential, the expense will be well worth it. |

I was at the track last year and didn't see ya. |
